In my experience, the process involves a comprehensive analysis of objectives, boundaries, alternatives, and criteria. Consultation with a range of stakeholders, including project proponents, regulatory bodies, affected communities, and subject matter experts, is key. By understanding their expectations and concerns, we ensure that the assessment comprehensively addresses all relevant aspects. In addition, it's essential to review the legal and policy frameworks that pertain to the project, as these provide the foundation for compliance and regulatory alignment. Identifying the specific environmental issues and indicators that will be assessed is crucial to ensure the EIA covers all pertinent aspects of the project's potential impact.

EIA is known for quite a long time and it actually is a great tool to measure if an impact of some project to the environment (and community) is acceptable. However, as we humans are only capable to see world trough our own eyes, anthropocentric decision making is usually inevitable. Estoy de acuerdo, pero es importante destacar que " hacer los estudios de campo " no es tan fácil como suena, y hay que contar con el equipo y los recursos suficientes para maximizar la eficiencia de esos estudios, no es medible en ocasiones el tiempo que pueden tomar dichos estudios, siempre va a depender del objetivo general y los objetivos específicos.

Para evaluar la importancia y la magnitud de cada uno de los impactos es muy importante definir una metodología clara y un equipo interdisciplinario que nos permita abordar la problemática desde diferentes áreas del conocimiento, lo que va ha ser que sea integral la evaluación de cada uno de los impactos del proyecto o problemática

El principio que se sigue en las medidas de mitigación es muy similar al de otros procesos relacionados con la sostenibilidad, como pueda ser el cálculo de la huella de carbono o la implantación de normas o estándares como la ISO 14.001 o EMAS, donde los procesos se dividen en tres fases, un punto de partida y las correspondientes medidas de reducción y compensación. El riesgo está en no prestar la suficiente atención a evitar determinados impactos mediante la búsqueda de mejores prácticas confiando en que cualquier resultado (por negativo que sea) puede ser compensado. La compensación debe ser el último recurso, nunca la excusa para no apostar por la mejora en la eficiencia de los procesos y la adaptación a mejores prácticas disponibles.
