How can you communicate with visual learners during brainstorming?

Using visual aids such as charts, diagrams, graphics not only helps visual learners to organize and recall information better but also summarize the content which is easy to understand, memorize and follow along the message to be communicated. The use of story board perhaps is the best example of using visual aids creatively that organize the content with the connection and it becomes easy to understand by the audience. More importantly, when we wanna connect with the audience, using visual aids does a fantastic job in this regard.

As humans, we're drawn to mental stimulation, often found in storytelling. Remember those moments as a child when someone spun a tale for you? The magic of those stories and the images they conjured in our minds made us feel like part of the narrative. As we grow, our experiences become our stories. When someone shares their own experiences with us, even through analogies and metaphors, we connect emotionally with their situation. Symbols, like the heart (??), trigger a flood of memories tied to emotions like love and care, understood universally due to their simplicity. In essence, communication extends beyond words. It's a realm of metaphors, analogies, symbols, and imagery that binds us emotionally.

Visual learners appreciate metaphors and symbols. Once, during a brainstorm, I encouraged a visual learner to describe their idea using a metaphor, and they compared it to a symphony. It added a beautiful layer to our discussion and sparked new ideas.

Relating anything complex with the common elements which everyone sees or knows makes it pretty simple to communicate your thoughts. It also makes the process interesting in such a way that receiver also start to contribute towards the ideas. It is better to find common elements in nature. As nature is something which everyone is familiar with.

I think the use of visual language plays a very crucial role in designing a logo for a business or a startup. One needs to put a lot of thought to use the symbols and alphabets that would represent the vision or purpose. It shouldn't be too complicated but as simple as possible so it can become a trademark for the company and people can easily remember. Technically, humans remember things more vigilantly they connect with in any way. So using visual language one can also represent a challenge or a message such as we all are familiar with the recycling symbol, it represents a solution to a challenge. Simply a whiteboard does the trick, you put all your thoughts and reorganize them which helps in the decision making process a lot. The ideas are refined, you can visually see and fix the mistakes to avoid any mishap later. Using sticky notes when you're given a multiple tasks help you decide and prioritize them arranging them according to the deadline and what needs to be done first. The visual tools really helps save the time and perform any task more efficiently.

The visual feedback during a meeting such as a gentle nod or facial expressions helps the person who presenting an idea or giving a presentation to connect and receive constructive feedback and indicates approval or disapproval on the points they put forward. You can use different ways to give a visual feedback such as thumbs up, smile, nod, clap when showing excitement or approval. And to show curiousity you can raise eyebrows, tilt your head.

Research has shown that body language is at least 60% of communication. As such, communicating during brainstorming sessions with visual learners would require the intentional use of the right gestures and body language. You can do this by showing how you engage with their ideas. A nod here, a smile, paying attention, a hug or even a clap.

It makes the whole process seamless. It reduces a lot of efforts and make the things simpler for both transmitter and the receiver. As this the first language a human being learns.
