Understanding the intricacies of how developers operate, the tools at their disposal, and the constraints they navigate enables me to synchronize my research objectives and methodologies with the development timeline and scope. This alignment ensures that my recommendations are not only insightful but also practical and implementable. Utilizing the development process as a guiding framework, I strategically plan my research activities, strategically integrating user testing at key stages and tailoring prototypes to align with varying levels of fidelity.

Empathy is a key concept here. We need to understand their work both intrinsically and extrinsically, e.g. what methodology they use, what their delivery cycle is, how they prioritize, etc. I find very helpful to participate in refinement and planification meetings, it's a great opportunity to see the dynamics and the mindset of the team.

Just as it is important for UX Researchers to understand the developers' mindset, motivations, priorities and working cycle, it also essential to open up to them and let them in the Research: how we work, why we apply one method, what we want to achieve and above all how our efforts will help the developers and benefit the product.

Generally this only works in an ideal atmosphere where developers are available or wish to get involved from the starting. There are generally conflicting timelines and project pressures which greatly inhibit developers from getting involved. I also haven't seen huge inputs with regards to research questions or set to come from developers and neither does it need to. This infact leads to detailing of the process more often than not. An interesting area where the collaboration with developers helps is figuring out the edge cases. What complementary corner cases may the user take. Then it is the researcher's call to figure out whether to explore further or not
