Evaluación es la palabra clave. Todas las discapacidades se asocias a fortalezas y limitaciones diferentes. Estas limitaciones marcarán un esquema de oportunidades y amenazas, por esto el análisis de situación inicial siempre será por donde se debe partir. En mi experiencia el coaching dirigido a profesionales con algún tipo de discapacidad, es mucho ir calibrar cada paso.

It would be great to know more details about disability aspect in each particular case, since each person is unique and different. So is their disability. Once we know that we can adjust out knowledge transfer sessions, putting more emphasize on visual or audio materials. Also, great way is to encourace people with disabilities to network with other persons, in order to get the real feel and gain additional confidence. Also, their examples can be shared as role models and inspiration for others.

Agregaría que, antes de la evaluación de necesidades y preferencias, hay que apoyar en que reconozcan cuales son sus habilidades y desafíos. Después de eso se volverá más certera la priorización de necesidades y preferencias disponibles que sean reales y se ajusten a las habilidades dentro de su propio contexto.

No solo se trata de proporcionar recursos e información, si no también de adaptarlo a la persona. Dentro del marco de la discapacidad intelectual dos personas con el mismo diagnóstico y mismo % de discapacidad existen diferentes niveles de compresión influidos por su proceso de aprendizaje vital y los estímulos con los que esté familiarizado. Habrá que centrarse más en la persona y sus capacidades que partir de su discapacidad.
