How can you choose the right language learning app based on your skill level?

You need to know the level where you are and you need to know where you want to be, the path that you will follow and of course it will be easier if you will have a mentor

Needs assessment, whether done by an individual themselves, or through some external means, is an invaluable part of one's language learning journey. Some questions an individual might want to reflect on, to assess their needs.. 1. Why do I want to learn this language? 2. What context am I going to use this language in? 3. Wnat are some of the things I would like to do using this language? 4. How well am I able to express those needs in that language AND get an appropriate response from the listener? These, in my opinion, should form a nice baseline for needs assessment for any language.

To be honest, I am yet to find an app that can do this accurately. If anyone has, I am all ears. The reason is that apps, understandably, tend to categorize semantic fields. Language learning for business still has many areas in common with language for travelling, or even academic. This classification, although useful for some basic vocab or expressions, does not quite transfer to real life, and therefore I find this needs assessment to be too automatic or general in the case of apps.

First of all to make it easier you have to stop and Identify whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced learner. Sometimes if you’re begging to learn it might be harder for you to find your own level, the app may help you to identify different level. The next step is to determine your specific goals, such as getting more vocabulary, studying grammar, speaking, or listening skills.

It would be beneficial if these app offer personalized concrete human feedback so you will have real feedback by a human rather to have generic responses

With the help of AI, language learning apps can more or less identify one's language level. With that in mind, choose an app that offers multiple daily practice, maybe with a reminder feature. Apps could also have a vocabulary feature for specific contexts. Finally, any app that offers practice in the form of back and forth conversation in the target language and correct language level, would be ideal.

Some features that might help are: Apps that provide high-quality, relevant content that aligns with your learning goals. Apps with interactive exercises, quizzes, and games to reinforce learning. Apps that offer progress tracking and feedback to help you monitor your improvement over time.

Interactive content makes you memorize more the things that you are learning and are proven to stay longer in your memory and therefore you should highly consider this feature.

Interactive content, such as conversation with AI, gamification of the learning process, and encouragement to seek out learners of similar language level, would make any app an excellent one to learn with. Add to that error correction while having a conversation(if possible), would ensure that the learner gets the best possible support in their language learning journey.
