How can you choose a legible and aesthetically pleasing font for print design?

Let me start by saying Print design is very different from Digital/Screen design in the sense that, you have to be very intentional about every elements you are using in a print design because of the outcome you are going to get. Some element looks great on screen while some don’t look great on print. Know the type of project you are working on and go with a font that is befitting for such so as to create a balance. And I must say again that you should know the type of fonts that we have so as to guide you in choosing the right one that will fit your print work and look aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

It’s definitely helpful to get a print out version of whatever you’re working on, either ordering a sample for bigger (or more custom prints) or if you’re working with more common sizes eg business card format or A4/smaller, use a standard printer to get a gist of how everything might appear and adjust accordingly if need be. It’s always important to test these things especially if you’re planning on putting in a big order. The last thing you want is to have a batch of unusable prints because you didn’t take some extra time to test quality.

When designing print, you alway need to create a mock-up to size. You will then have a place to begin making your design teaks.

This is true, sometimes what you look at in the monitor and the output print can be different, sometimes the problem lies in the printer or sometimes it's the paper/media but sometimes the scaling problem, you make it too big or too small. So it's good to have a test print of the design to make sure the output is in accordance with the design that you make.

I feel as though a lot of marketing teams will look at their competitors and what they are doing. This is of course something you want to do but I found that some of the most successful design work have taken elements of other brands they see outside of their industry. Ex. Say you were starting a luxury jewelry company. I would look at the other jewelry companies but once I had a feel for where my industry's design style was I would start to investigate other luxury brands such as Mercedes Benz, or Bentley. There are some many other industries with luxury as a driving design focus so why limit yourself to just yours? So many of the greatest success stories in marketing have pulled an idea from an unlikely place, thinking outside the box.

You have to consider your subject matter and the type of organization it represents and pick a font that represents the image or mood you want to portray. Conservative, frivolous, artsy, whatever. Each ad has a certain character to present.

Es gibt Themenfelder, in denen g?ngige Typografie-Regeln für Printmedien bewusst aufgehoben werden. Beispielsweise in Kunst-Magazinen und auch in der Modebranche. Manchmal kann es hilfreich sein, mit Linien und Formen zu experimentieren, um eigene Schrift-Stile zu erschaffen.
