How can you choose between predictive and power dialers?

Power dialers are like having a more controlled approach to reaching out to prospects. They give us the chance to really focus on who we're talking to, learn more about them, and even jot down any important notes. What I love about them is that there's no waiting around for connections - it's instant! Plus, they're great at lowering the chances of being marked as spam. Unlike predictive dialers that might sometimes cause delays or lower connection rates.

Predictive dialers are meant to increase call activity while power dialers are meant to increase meaningful conversation activity. Pick your poison...

Let's be honest, both are quite spammy unless used correctly. Predictive dialers cause too many spam issues and have been proven to lower connection rates. If you're using a power dialer to "war dial" you won't last very long unless you work in a boiler room ?? Personally I believe the best way to execute a power dialer is to pick 200 prospects that fit into your ICP. Split them so you have half for the morning and half for the afternoon. It also helps if you can keep them all in the same industry so your approach can be more tailored. Power dialers are great for saving time so you can still focus on other imperative activities like research!!!

There are two varieties here. One is a car. It functions. It gets you from point A to Point B. Another is a Ferrari. World class. Machine and human powered. Will take you zero to 60 in 3 seconds or give you an edge over your competitors. Look for the companies with several patents on their technology. If they don’t have any, run as you will damage your brand.

Predictive Dialers are a great option when you're going through a large volume of calls. You can dial up to 5 lines in most (10 some others) and it means you can have a conversation almost instantly. If you have big lists and a very uniform value proposition this is perfect.

If you're working in a sector that has really low connection rate, predictive dialers are your friends. It can be an absolute plus to your SDRs tool box, allowing a more productive day where they get to have more chances to get your name out there and drive more leads to your pipeline.

I'm an autodialer consultant and I'm not sure what "predictive" means. I'm guessing it's a synonym to parallel, the idea that you can call multiple numbers at once. It's really simple math: go take a list and call it 1 by 1. Count how many of the calls go straight to voicemail. Now you can call that same list tomorrow with a parallel dialer, but every call that went to VM now takes only a few seconds VS 30 full seconds of ringing. So ~90% of calls go unanswered, so you'll probably save 20-30 minutes per call blitz.

In my view, one drawback of using a parallel dialer is the delay in connection times, which can cause lags. Additionally, displaying a single number to multiple recipients may increase the likelihood of being marked as spam, reducing opportunities for effective communication.

The only real drawback here is the bridge time (the time it takes to be connected to a pickup). Some dialing tools have developed proprietary ways to make this time almost unnoticeable, while also capturing what the prospect says, so reps aren't coming in unprepared. It's a common misconception that you can't be strategic while dialing 3 or 4 lines together -- it all depends on what embedded features and AI exists in the tool to make sure that you're able to be prepared for each call (IE call notes, account history, sequence steps, AI summaries, etc).

The biggest drawback is the delay in connecting the call. I recently used one, and it means you won't be able to mirror the tonality at the start of the call. Furthermore, it also has commodities pick up rates, meaning you won't value the calls as much. That being said, if you're needing to call many people, it's still very good.

Delayed pick-ups are the obvious drawbacks that everyone notices, but the hidden drawback no one sees until it is too late is that predictive dialing removes the thoughtfulness of cold call messaging. Reps are thrown into conversations without any pre-call research or notes to use making it harder to be personalized and empowering reps to use spray and pray methods.

If you're calling via click to call, or just dialing numbers on a telephone each time, a power dialer is a huge step up. The best power dialers will automatically skip voicemails and get you into the next call without you having to lift a finger. Keep in mind: 90% of calls go unanswered. So you will still listen to the phone ring a WHOLE lot...

Power dialers provide you with the best of both worlds (quality and quantity cold calls). They empower reps to increase their dial and conversation activity without sacrificing the thoughtfulness of calls.

Very simple. You can speak to more people usually in a day then most speak to in a month. Then you are able to easily follow-up with all of those people who tell you something like "I’m watching paint dry, please call me again. I’m dead. I’m at the zoo, now’s not a good time etc”… A power dialer will also help you sort through a heap of data fast based on ICP and messaging. No meetings = 1/2 problems 1- you’re calling the wrong person 2- your messaging is off. Ask yourself how can I know this fast? One way is dialing one to one the other is one to many. Most companies need 100 conversations with the right people to determine messaging. How long can you afford to get those? 1 month, 3 months or 1 week?

A power dialler will reduce the time between calls and make it harder for sellers to procrastinate. It also gives you better data as to call outcomes, allowing you to direct your coaching in a more effective way. Most power diallers will pay for themselves in the space of days.

Personally, I'm not a fan of either but both of these options can be useful for any agency, they can improve productivity, increase contact rate and help less efficient members of the team make their call targets. Its important to note that this software will not work for every project you run or in fact, everyone you hire. Some of our best team members go at their own pace, take it slower, but get the results the client wants. As long as you have the solutions in place to help the team work in the way that works best for them, you'll sure to succeed

There are virtually no drawbacks to power diallers. Even if you're in the type of company where each call should be prepared, the prep should be done prior to calling in bulk and then just power through the calls.

The downside of a power dialer is that, upon the connection rate in your industry being low, your SDRs can easily sit there snoozing off waiting to get a connection. In addition, if your connection rate is actually high, your SDR has to continuously stop the power dialer from dialing the next number after each engagement which it actually defeats the reason why a power dialer was implemented in the first place, affective productivity rather than increasing it.

It is very crucial that you understand what is the connection rate average in your industry before deciding which of these options, or if any of them, are actually a good fit for your business needs. In addition, be aware of the coaching needs of your SDRs around workflow, calling skills and their overall understanding of the system thats implemented. With a higher amount of connections comes great responsibility.

I take the manual approach. Something I have noticed is a higher conversation rate. Many who use power dialers have a problem with showing up as SPAM. However many tools work with top-tier carriers and cycle numbers. If I were to choose a power dialer it would be FrontSpin and Perdictive dialer I would look at Nooks. Manual approach VanillaSoft.
