Physical proximity is no longer a limitation to productivity and efficiency. The more we talk about #worklifebalance, the more we need to talk about working from different locations across different time zones. In my opinion, 3 things critical to this are: 1. Communication- Having the right channels to communicate effectively and openly is the key. 2. Accessibility- Being accessible for the team just improves the cohesiveness and collaboration. 3. Trust- This is the most underrated organisational tool. It is not only about trusting the team, but also about being trusted. #Remotework is here to stay and is already revolutionising the way we operate. We should embrace the change instead of resisting it.

In my experience communicating clearly is key, however, the term "frequently" should be subjective to the teams and time zones. Daily may not work for some teams. Weekly or bi-weekly may be more fitting for teams that span across continents with ten or eleven hour differences. In regards to making sure to use a variety of communication methods, this is also subjective. An email or Teams channel post may be more appropriate so you don't wake up your co-worker when it's 1am their time while having a location where everyone on the team can be included in the conversation during a time that suits them.

Biases on work schedules are observed for people operating in different regions. Even though an organisation may run with one philosophy, one vision and one value driven culture, individual regions will have their influence on the operating model. Hence its utmost crucial that leaders who manage different regions and continents learn the company culture from the same book and pass the baton to their team so that implementation is smooth and flawless. This will help in removing biases and creating an inclusive environment at work. Flexi work results in improving efficiencies at work which is individualised . The challenge is only for the erstwhile book keepers who define work efficiency based on hours rather than output.
