How can you build a support network to stay resilient in Systems Design?

Some ways to get started could be doing following action items 1. Get first hand experience of designing such system 2. Think in terms of system availability and scalability, fault tolerant 3. Consider security first approach 4. Always consider cost effective solution and current architect. 5. Not all best approaches suggested over google will give you good yield, hence need to consider holistic view before decision making. 6. Time is of essence - always more in direction where you can have your system work at full capacity.

Systems design is an orchestra of different tools, technologies, and processes. Teams and the knowledge tie up, hence forms a major part of running/enriching this. In order to have a synchronous ways of working where continuous improvement is being worked on, 3 things form a critical role: 1. Understanding the system landscape - not only from technical perspective, but more from how this addresses the need of the customer/user 2. Having a clear understanding of the integrations and outcome of the usage (not just the output) 3. Continuously identifying and addressing the issues that can be addressed - by using the collective knowledge of the experts in the end to end Systems landscape.

Besides the well-tried and traditional ways of building a support network in system design, I suggest two additional approaches for being resilient. (1) Learning from real-world stories can be a powerful way to gain insights, learn from others' mistakes, and build a sense of shared experience. So, create a storytelling circle within your network where professionals share personal experiences, both successes, and failures. (2) Add some global perspective to your network. Connect with professionals from different geographical locations. This not only broadens your cultural awareness but also exposes you to different approaches to Systems Design influenced by regional challenges, regulations, and user behaviors.

The importance of a mentor is often underrated. Someone who has been there done that can be evaluated to be chosen to be a mentor, while it is also important to consider their space. Someone who has quality experience can significantly ease the path by eliminating trial and error iterations. A human angle to consider would be their interest in your growth. That aside, from expanding the borders of understanding to enabling approaches, mentors play varied roles in helping you solve a problem statement. The nudges of a good mentor will have a significant impact in the longer run!

I think joining a community is by far the most profitable and direct approach because in a tight knitted community people are willing and interested to help. Posting a question on public forum will attract those who are knowledgeable and interested. There are many community groups here in LinkedIn as well as professional groups under IEEE. Be sure you make your contributions to others too, this is mutual help and unless there is a direct conflict of interest, there are no in-house competitions that hinder giving an honest opinion and trying to help each other. We all benefit from learning from each other and the satisfaction that we can help.

SE is by its nature ‘all encompassing’. As such it is necessary to establish good working relationships with all of the stakeholders on a project or within the company. Example contacts are the engineers of HW & SW engineering, RAMS, safety, as well as regulatory and management. Most companies will agree with making good contacts with experts but frown on talking to them about internal projects, contracts or R&D. Encourage your internal specialists to work with their experts but cultivate communication between the various departments.

It is difficult to comply with the 5 previous points if you do not know where to start, so my suggestion is: Participate in events related to the technologies you work with. In-person events, online, company or community events can all be beneficial. They will provide you with information, they will allow you to find out about the latest news, they will allow you to learn other perspectives on the problems you face and, of course, they will allow you to interact and meet other professionals in the sector.

I do not think this question is correct, as a matter of fact, I believe that “resilience” in system design is not necessarily a desired goal. If we interpret the term resilience as capacity to withstand and spring back, we must recognize that the ability to promptly recognize an opportunity and need to adjustment and change is much more valuable.

One thing I find it useful , is to read about similar systems, try to analyse the scop, why and when the challenges appears, how was the action toward solving it. Are there Any real action occurs. It is realy matters to have a solid understanding and awareness about your system and how it is different from other, then it will be easy to keep develop auch a solid system that sustain. ??
