How can you build relationships with senior leadership to get promoted in IT services?

The value proposition that a leader offers, is a manifestation of the underlying belief system that he or she professes. This proposition must be very clearly be known to your stakeholders, your team members, your customers . This value proposition is what creates your leadership reputation which transcends all boundaries.

Actually some people do not want to give their feedback. We can get feedback only from the people who are working with us and who know about us. If they are not willing to give their feedback, what can be done.

In my personal experience, feedback differentiates between a mediocre and a high performer. But the most important thing is not about getting a feedback. The most important question is why will somebody not accept a feedback? We all have the right intent, we all speak the right, right language, yet when it comes to feedback – lot of us get very defensive. In my intense working with many senior leaders across different countries, just one single single phrase, describes this anomaly - Authority trap ! People get into traps of their own authority, and mistakingly, presume themselves to be the all knowledgeable. As soon as this trap compasses their mind, their learning stops and the doors to feedback are shut forever.

There is no leader, who can contribute only on precedence And qualify to be a path breaker. Leaders are not hired to run their KRA and job descriptions. Leaders are hired to pay the way to a new change. And the change is assured only when people take proactive measures and initiative. My experience with several leaders in various countries, highlights that every single leader who is known to leave a legacy gets his or her adrenal rush from the proactive initiative that he or she takes in an organisation. People are not remembered for doing their job. Well, people are remembered for what they left back in the organisation when they are no more there.

Be essential to professional outcomes! Leadership can manifest in many different ways. It has been my experience and belief that it is critical to show your value by becoming essential to business outcomes. Volunteer for difficult task and then carry them out. Engage where others hesitate and get things across the finish line. I simply call this the GSD theory of work; Get "Stuff" done and others will begin to recognize this as your superpower. It is quite essential in business, especially where theory and pontification sometimes slow down getting results.

Always be building your network. Nurture your network when you don't need them so that they are available when you do. Mentorship is a bit overused. Find people who are interested in seeing you succeed and then consistently engage and have conversations. You do not need a ton of mentors, just a good and vital set of folks whose experience provides a pathway for you to follow. Look at folks on LinkedIn who have seemingly achieved aspects of your desired goals and then reach out to them for a brief conversation. What's the worse thing that can happen; no response at all? Most leaders will respond and give you time to engage. Give it a shot!
