Setting the right goal is more difficult and time consuming than you think. In order to get it right, you need to consider the entire journey. The fact that it is difficult to do so is no excuse though. Set something today and expect to refine it from time to time. In my experience, it is absolutely fine to modify your goal and not get them right the first time. Set a direction of travel and DO revise it at regular intervals.

To some extent it misses the point: identify people to follow but not simply so that you can hook them but because they are saying things you are interested in or you want to learn from.
