I agree with all of the above, but I also have my own “legacy” criteria when thinking about speakers. When delegates leave at the end of the day and they are sitting on a train what will stand out about what they have heard… what will be a call to action… and will that “legacy” thought and action be one that aligns still with my original aims for the conference. Finding speakers who motivate actions is a key part of planning.

Some of my most successful finds as speakers have come about by going completely outside of my day to day network- I’ve contacted interviewees from radio broadcasts, I’ve found out about an interest a potential Speaker may have that aligns with content and aims of a conference and used this to start conversations through social media…both have worked and allowed me to open up topics for delegates
