Throughout my career, I've actively sought feedback not just on the final design outputs but also throughout the design process. This has included involving stakeholders early on, conducting usability testing, and engaging in regular design critiques with colleagues. By detaching myself from my work and approaching feedback with objectivity, I've been able to receive it constructively, viewing it as an opportunity for growth rather than a personal critique. This iterative approach has not only improved the quality of my designs but has also instilled confidence in my ability to receive and integrate feedback effectively.

Building confidence as an interaction design professional is all about getting experience and learning ;) Working on projects and sharing your ideas in design discussions can help you feel more sure of yourself. Getting feedback from coworkers and users can also help you improve and feel more confident in your work. Keeping up with what's happening in the industry can also give you the confidence to handle new tasks. And most importantly, believing in yourself is key to feeling confident in your role as an interaction designer!

One thing that has been helpful for me was that as soon as I see a tutorial, instead of using the resource they've given me, I try to recreate everything from scratch, I often get frustrated especially at the beginning and watch the tutorials multiple times to figure it out, but once I figure it out, I'm confident about it!

Collaboration is also important, never shy away from asking about feedback on your designs, even if you are just starting out and do not feel confident about your designs, just ask people about them and how you can improve them, this has always helped me, especially when I changed fields and was not confident about my designs in the beginning, I always asked for feedback from my seniors and my mentors and this given immense insight in a short period which instead would have taken me a lot a time to figure out if done individually.

Learning is a never ending process! To grow as an interaction design the one thing that matters the most is to keep on embracing your creative by aligning it with how you can solve a problem better. To break it down in simpler manner, If you’re solving a problem for users to purchase a product from your website or app! Try solving this problem in different approaches. Such as including a subtle interaction or visual cue. The other way to learn it is to keep taking screenshots of app that piques your interest. Surely, this technique helps a lot!

Practice, Practice, Practice. Nothing else beats practice. In my experience I watch several videos and tutorials and save my design inspirations, then I give them a try to see how well I can replicate those same interactions. When you build working experience in interaction design, you build confidence.

Having guides and mentors who can see through you helps tremendously in uncovering your potential and working with your strengths. I have been extremely lucky to have amazing guides in design and philosophy school and they still mentors me even after years out of college. They have built confidence and fulfilment in me by giving me the opportunity to guide others through public speaking and inviting me to jury panels for evaluation and guidance through effective feedback. Some of my closest friends also guide me unknowingly through in-depth discussions about design, its contribution to society and what can we do better as creators. Seeing the learnings come full circle I feel confident about the system and my existence in it.

Sharing your work with others is the best way I've found to build confidence. I remember early in my career designing some interfaces that would make me cringe today, however, my clients were pleased with results. As my confidence grew I was able to discern between good and bad design. I followed the best designers on social media and tried to emulate their methods. Then I read books, books and more books as well as articles. And finally I took tutorials to master design tools. This cocktail of learning gave me the confidence boost to tackle any project.

I have worked with many designers but only a few were exceptional. Here's what made them stand-out: - The ability to ask questions - The ability to correct our assumptions - Adding examples from other products or their own work - Communication - Ability to research (Not necessarily in this order) Confidence is a habit you can build overtime by repeatedly stepping out of the comfort zone and learning.

This is a more generic advice but works for designers as well - put yourself out there. Seek out opportunities which can make you grow - speaking opportunities, podcast opportunities, learning opportunities, networking opportunities. Think you're too new in the industry? Think again. Think you don't have anything new to share? Think again. You're your own person with unique viewpoints, it's time you put them across in front of others. It can be scary, but it's always worth it. At the end of the day, you'll have done something you never thought you could and you'll be a more confident person for it.
