I often see supervisors selected as champions because they have structural power. And supervisors do have a role in managing change. Another option is to select champions who are connected to, and consulted by, their peers. Using peers has several benefits: ?? Trust: people know their peers understand their priorities and challenges. ?? Bandwidth: often a supervisor has many priorities, where a peer can devote attention to a project. ?? Growing talent: this gives peers a chance to build and demonstrate new skills, and provides the organization with a talent pool of people who can be groomed for promotion. If you need help with a project change you will need help on-the-ground with floor walking or messaging and when your roll out is done, it's done. However, the knowledge you impart to those champions will stay with the forever and help them to be better, more confident communicators in any role they do in the future. With time and effort spent, these engaged individuals could become your biggest advocates and passionate change agents.
