To use SMART objectives for your goal, you need to first clarify your goal and make sure it is also SMART. Instead of saying “I want to start a new business”, you could say “I want to launch an online store that sells handmade jewelry by December 31st”. To achieve this goal, you should break it down into smaller sub-goals or milestones, such as conducting market research and identifying your target audience by March 31st, creating a business plan and budget by June 30th, designing and producing your products by September 30th, building and testing your website by November 30th, and promoting and launching your online store by December 31st. Each sub-goal should also be SMART and have its own objectives that support it. For instance, for the market research sub-goal, some objectives could be surveying 100 potential customers about their preferences, needs, and challenges by March 15th; analyzing the survey results and creating customer personas by March 22nd; and researching competitors and identifying a unique value proposition by March 29th.
