Concerning developing an existing product, we need to gather information from customer's feedback. We need to define their problem to get the best solution. Then we prepare a strategy to create a goal and timeline that delivers to our team. This work will be handled by more than one team such as a product strategy team, R&D team, finance, etc.

One path that R&D is allowed to do is ignore the conventional path and work backwards from the goal. If the goal was to decrease the weight/stiffness in a car you could go to cardboard, in the extreme. Making changes/impacts can either be evolutionary or revolutionary. The choice to develop does impact how radical we're allowed to be. Either way at the end of the day the brainstorming ideas need to be actually something that meets the application, with enough investment, cardboard frames will never work... Or will they ??

When I ideate with my teams, we tend to follow SPACE steps. After contextualizing, we start first with diverging (flaring): We (S)tage a clear tidy area or a whiteboard where our ideas would emerge, then we (P)opulate the board with all possible ideas, using post-it stickers, without any group feedback or self-censuring allowed at this moment. An intermediate step comes after, during which, we (A)rrange the post-its in group that go well together Once done, we start converging (focusing), where we C(onverse) to understand the board and decide what propositions or group of ideas would work best for our initiative objective. This helps you break free from old ideas and come up with fresh, creative solutions.

This time, after checking the best solution and filter thoughts and suggestions, it's better to talk to someone the decision team, namely a customer or a college from another department. When people don't have the drown background they can help without any bias. it can be a key solution, they can just be told that is test. Or even team can scale their test and work on it with a survey questionnaire.

Prototyping can help us perform different tests and understand: 1-The effect of different manufacturing techniques (CNC, Molding, 3D printing, etc.) on the measured results. 2-The degree of compatibility of the measurements and simulated, predicted, desired, or expected results. 3-The difference between laboratory measurements and measurements done in a real environment. 4-What changes need to be considered in the simulation environment to reflect closer results to real-world measurements for the next round of prototyping and testing.

It's better to consider DMAIC route for brain storming apart from Ishikawa diagram based approach.. One needs to find out the Cause(S) and root Cause of the problem thru any technique... Then only brain storming will be effective...
