It has nothing to do with networking per se. Yet it starts a conversation with another person about a topic they like. That can put them at ease. You will eventually get to business and what they do. Probably sooner than you think. The best part of the question is that you may share something in common. Or you may know somebody who also enjoys that and might be able to make that introduction. Finally, you may be able to learn something you didn't know about an activity.

Just an email that goes like: Dear ___. Our talk the other day on content and PR reminded me of somebody in my networking group. He's done a lot of that type of work. Here's a piece he did for ____. Would you be interested in an intro? Most networkers get a genuine high about making a successful introduction. An intro note like the above makes that so much easier and you get to pound your chest in the process.

Jump on that and forward it. If you referenced something during your conversation, send a link as a follow up. The seven touches to a sale or introduction come in many shapes and forms. The follow-up email, text, phone call or letter is but one of them. But a key one.
