For example, if you intend to tell the story of a family-owned coffee shop in a 30-second video, you should be clear on the intent of the storytelling piece, but also on the filming techniques you used, the platform it will be posted on, and the audience that you want to reach, so your mentor doesn't have to rely on assumptions. This will help both you and your mentor, and they will appreciate it!

Nobody knows what you need until you communicate with them (most of the time). I found it helpful to talk openly to each mentor (or lead) about what help I needed. I say where I am in my project, what kind of advice I want (like technical stuff or creative ideas), and how much time I have. I also mention if I am getting advice from others. This helps each mentor give advice that fits the situation and doesn't mix things up. By saying how I plan to use the advice, it made it easier for mentors to help me in the right way.

BE GRATEFUL! When a media expert takes the time to provide detailed feedback on what you made, you must show sincere appreciation and acknowledge that their feedback matters–regardless if you agree with what they said or not. Communication is a great way to show you are grateful and they could also appreciate you giving them feedback on their advice and how it was communicated to you i.e., whether it should be more constructive, direct, etc.
