It’s also the area most management consultants struggle with most as they can often help many people in different ways. I can’t say this clearly enough. Defining your niche doesn’t cut you off from working with a wide range of people, it actually helps you stand out in a sea of bland far more effectively. Not sure how to do it? There's a moment in my workshop when we do an exercise on selecting a niche And someone shows me his new highly targeted niche and I tell him it’s not targeted enough And the colour drains from his face as he sees all his potential customers being excluded Except they were never his potential customers. They were never going to buy from him They just made him feel good that he was addressing a huge audience And then we build a simple, clear proposition around that very small niche And he takes it away and implements it And people start contacting him asking for help. Conversations start And his proposition that sells one specific thing to one specific person starts to form a queue..
