In my experience, when defining a framework, I first see it as necessary to carry out a correct assessment of the types of deliverables, the expectations of deliverables according to the interested parties and the structure and skills of the teams involved. A framework is the collections of rules each individual project must operate under. There are an unlimited number of projects which are designed to achieve specific end results. But the projects that are used by a specific organization must adhere to the rules put in place by that organization to insure safety, documentation, control, etc. Just has a coach must select the play to call based on the reality of the current situation the program manager must select the correct project to achieve the desired result within the stated rules of the game.

Ascertaining the scope of your project and using the apt set of tools/techniques is half the war won! We need to be mindful of not overdoing the frameworks and shouldn't hesitate to tweak what is required. Effective usage will be critical in delivering the apt results but over engineering will create a chaos! The most important trait is to know and be cognizant is that the right amount is key!

It's more about what parts of the framework would work best for the organization, as most often, the organization's maturity differs from the team. Managing the organizational change aspect of using frameworks is vital to adoption and success. Spend a few months to socialize the framework, get feedback on what components resonate with various teams and departments your projects interact with and then build an adoption plan to incorporate them. You'll need to make changes and tweak the final output based on the uniqueness of your organization's business operating model.

The word is Cognizance! Like I called our earlier being mindful of the need to change is important! As program leaders, it's beyond critical to know when to stop and recognise if something needs a change. Changes aren't easy and can't happen overnight, so, we need to be on the vigil to not go overboard! Creating a personalized adaptation of a great framework is a great success tool.. so remember to stop, think, adapt and adopt!
