How can you announce a new hire or promotion using a press release?

Press releases about hiring or promotion can be important in positioning a company's expertise and high level in its industry. Here are the top 3 reasons: 1. Transparency with the audience to build more trust. When company is open to hiring and you speak openly about employees, this position deserves trust. 2. Expertise. You present which experts work in your company or you offer to take a challenge and strengthen your team. The level of expertise of employees determines the reliability and quality of the company. 3. Building a strong HR PR brand to attract the best experts

Everything about writing press releases is related to the target media outlet. It's not the same to write for a business publication as a general publication. With that in mind, we can simply announce a hire or promotion to an industry publication, but if we want to get a general media outlet to publish it, we will probably need to give the news a twist. We want to communicate that, but we can have a different approach by talking about what that hire works in and mention that hire within the article.

New-hire and promotion announcements are a unique and powerful way to leverage exposure in untapped markets. Not only does it connect the individual's audience with the company's, but anyone in their related fields with each other. This is why I think it's best practice to expand your announcement to areas that go outside the field of interest for whatever industry you are in. For instance, when I was promoted to Editor of Get Lost Travel Magazine we reached outside of the typical journalism and tourism markets, and incorporated the work I do in advertising and marketing. Where these sectors overlap is where you can discover undeveloped relationships that can be nurtured into amazing new clients and possibilities.

From my experience headlines is what makes people want to read your press release. Finding a balance between industry jargon and simple accessible language is usually the trick to this. My go to check list is short, concise and relevance to my audience.

Additionally, in a climate when folks are apt to move roles, other channels - such as updates on the company website, and on LinkedIn - can be more suitable for such announcements.
