Some additional considerations to reduce waste in VOIP systems... Consider the use of hardware made from BFR free /CFR free / PVC free materials. These chemicals contaminate both the air and water dueing production as well as disposal. Wherever possible, look for a vendor that uses recycled plastic. Check if there are excessive packaging materials used. This not only creates waste but also increase product bulk and costs of transportation. Wherever possible consider devices that perform multiple function. A single camera with an embedded speaker &mic is more sustainable than 3 separate devices. Finally, servers are used for VOIP, consider virtualisation. This reduces not just equipment, but also energy consumption & maintenance costs.
