How can visual communication establish trust in graphic design?

- Make sure you build your brand style guide, even if it's just a tiny brand book at beginning. Include do's and don'ts. - For consistency, start with just a few colors that say "this is me" and stick to them. Do the same for typography. - Start with just a few steps - brands grows - just tweak things gradually, always keeping that consistent vibe, making sure your audience knows it's "you" at a glance.

Consistency is what makes people recognise brands by "feeling" (or, "at a glance"), which is what effective #branding is all about. Make sure you create (and implement!) a brand style manual that is unique to your brand (avoid copying elements from long-established brands). In it, choose your visual elements according to the brand's vision and mission, and, of course, consider who the intended recipient (audience) is. Remember. You are not marketing to yourself. Your visual elements need to be able to sell to your client. So, avoid designing according to your personal tastes.

Maintain objectivity, view every interaction as an opportunity to value your interlocutor's time. . Master the information, be brief, get straight to the point to allow for immediate assimilation of your message. . So, focus on breathing space to achieve clarity.

There's an over-exploration of the "less is more" theory. Too little is said about the why, though. Design, in general, should start from the premise of having a clear purpose. If there isn't a purpose, it probably shouldn't exist or be created. Peirce's Theory of Signs is clear about communication being established when there's shape, function, and meaning. And that's applicable to either written, verbal, or visual communication. Being clear is working on the design to give the audience enough space to breathe, and by assuring that the visuals have a clear purpose.

When you're honest in your designs, you demonstrate respect for your audience's intelligence and integrity. When creating CGIs for our clients designs we have to be 'honest'. We work with the architects drawings to create a 3D model that accurately represents the proposals. Adding lighting and materials so that the final visual is as close to a photo of the completed building as possible. As a profession we pride ourselves on the photo-realism of our images, and love nothing more than comparing a photo of the completed project with our 3D visualisation. Don't get me wrong, sometimes there is room for artistic licence, but at the end of the day the 3D visualisation has to be an 'accurate' and 'honest' representation of the proposal, otherwise what's the point!

Remember the concept of bad profits? Being dishonest with your clients will only take you so far, and believe me, they will find out. It's not worth it. Building long-lasting relationships with your clients depends on honesty. Many clients are willing to pay more for a designer they trust. That's how valuable trust is.

It's important to be empathetic with your contractors. Sometimes, they come with ideas that may not be well-founded, and you could simply comply, collect your fee, and part ways. However, letting your client know that their information may be misleading and helping them avoid costly mistakes is also an act of empathy. The project may not proceed at that time, but the trust you build by putting yourself in the client's shoes is invaluable. Their gratitude can lead to return business for future projects.

One thing I found helpful is doing work that connects even to PWDs or to children. I have seen them to appreciate the message better if they know the designer had them in mind. I am now exploring and studying how braille can be incorporated into design. Empathy is important in design.

Being creative is a strong and primary skill for every designer. However, it doesn't mean that you have to invent a new wheel from scratch. Creativity means drawing inspiration from the work already accomplished by great artists around the world. Explore the work of others and analyze it for a couple of minutes. Observe the composition, typography, alignment, colors, and every detail. Note down your analysis of why it looks so good. When working on a logo, inspiration doesn't solely come from other logos; it can also originate from real-life objects. It can come from anything in this vast universe; you just need to focus. Incorporate these insights and analyses into your creative process.

Creativity is a key point for every design work. It is fundamental for the audience to catch the idea with originality and beauty.

Creativity starts in the curiosity, or the inner desire to learn things outside of the realm of your daily tasks and routines. Being able to see the world from different perspectives is crucial to a creative professional. Only by feeding your brain with different sources, styles, and media, you'd be able to foster in your brain an environment of out-of-the-box ideas generation. Exploring different (and emerging) technologies, leveraging the tools available, and being empathetic to what real businesses need is the perfect equation for a creative - and sustainable - lifestyle.

Having a creative mindset is a fundamental quality for visual and graphic designers. However, it's not a skill everyone possesses inherently. Engaging with creative elements in your surroundings and incorporating them into your daily life can significantly boost your creativity and aid in generating compelling visuals.

My Formula of Creativity includes 3 things - Exploration + Skills + Courage. 1. Upload the high-quality visual art into your brain. 2. Study the theory and immediately master it in practice. 3. Know your weaknesses. Be able to cast doubts and act, defeating all kinds of your fears - criticism, refusals, lack of resources.

I think the question of ‘how to establish trust’ raises a second: why do you want to establish trust in the first place? Is it to sell something, manipulate someone, or/and to be able to communicate something that as designers we feel is genuinely beneficial to our audiences? In other words we need to declare our agendas. Furthermore, we need to be transparent in terms of the methods we use to make arguments - what is the truth-value that we project and claim through the designs we create? There are ways we can do this through the construal evident in presentations of type and image. It is fine to depart from the truth and be speculative or provocative; so long as this is understood as such by those who make meanings from our designs.

Feelings like confidence or trust can be generated through graphic design by means of composition, stable compositions with geometric shapes that exhibit balance and stability. The golden ratio, symmetries, rhythms, and various resources that organize the visual space will always be trustworthy. Abrupt shapes, instability, aggressiveness, or unbalanced compositions will be perceived as less reliable.

Research is a critical step in the creative process that often gets the cold shoulder. Time for research is a luxury in our fast-paced workplace with tight deadlines and little bandwidth. Knowing your target audience is the foundation to effective graphic design. It's the only way you deliver the right message to the right person at the right time.

Communication. This seems an area that designers (especially in my area) struggle with. Designers should learn to take feedback, respond constructively, and also update users/clients timely and appropriately.

Imagine your brand is a road trip to your favorite place, one you love taking over and over again. Visual communication is how you get people to join you for the fun and adventure. If they have a good time (that's the marketing role), they'll stick with you for the long haul. But if you change your route, goals, or even your ride, you'll need to update your visual communication to attract new people and let your existing supporters know that you're still the same, just on a new and exciting journey.
