How can Thought Leaders ensure original ideas?

Get out of the office, away from screens, and into the analog world. The ideas in your Linkedin and IG feeds are vetted for mass approval, then presented to you based on the choices you've made over the years. These ideas are both not original to society at large and not original to you. Perfect recipe for tired, half-baked, chewed-over ideas. GET OUTSIDE. Go walk around in the real world. Observe, and pay attention to situations that don't make sense and don't fit easily into the "big ideas" you've been bathing in on social media. Talk to people who don't work for you and aren't potential clients - ask them questions - especially "stupid" questions you think you already have answers to. You'll come away brimming with original ideas.

One thing I've found helpful is to reflect on the unique parts of your personal and career history to see how those experiences have changed your perspective. Often it is the non-linear qualities of your life that lead to original ideas and problem solving abilities.

I would not focus as much on original ideas, as I would focus on finding a true problem, an unmet need, a product that introduces tension. Find a issue or need that almost everyone is feeling and needing, that way what you bring to the table will help as many people as possible. Just because an idea is original does NOT mean it will help people, Focus on helping as many as possible.. Or if you are an artist.. then create something that make as many people as possible feel a new feeling or acknowledge a feeling that has not been acknowledged

Coming up with original ideas is hard. There aren't any short cuts. A few tips. 1. Informal conference coffee chats are a good source of new and interesting ideas. The kind of things people are worried/excited/intrigued about but not yet writing about. 2. Gather a half dozen of your company's managers/directors/junior staff, from different departments, for a two to three hour brainstorming session. Consider hiring an experienced freelancer to lead the session and write up a report based on the strongest ideas and content themes. It could be enough for a six month content "roadmap". 3. Test your ideas by taking a step back from your your job and company. Imagine you are your target reader. Why would you find the idea interesting?

Thought leaders secure originality by honing in on a unique niche. Explore untrodden paths within your expertise. Authenticity emerges when your ideas carve a distinctive space, setting you apart in a crowded landscape. Your niche is not just a corner; it's the vantage point from which originality unfolds.

Thought leaders are not meant to relax and stop researching for a day in a fast pacing world where standards of everything is been raised without anybody's consent. Continuous learning will help to gain more clarity, adapt to the time and operation of the "new" in an old-fashioned scheme of things.

Following your hypothesis, present evidence and supporting details that bolster your case. This might include data, statistics, examples, or expert opinions that lend credibility to your argument. Arrange this evidence in descending order of importance, starting with the most powerful and relevant information.

Something I've found to be equally critical is embracing a multi-disciplinary approach. Learning outside your core domain incredibly enriches your thought process. Diving into disciplines like psychology, sociology or even history, facilitates broader perspective and encourages cross-domain fertilization of ideas. The real innovation, in my experience, often happens at the intersections of different fields (ZigZag). Hence, I'd encourage aspiring thought leaders to broaden their learning horizons beyond their primary field.

In my experience, original ideas come from synthesizing disparate information a.k.a "connecting the dots". For example: if you are thought leader in aerospace engineering, look for patterns similar- there could be some learning from the auto industry (software defined vehicles)be applied for autonomous flights / drones. Look for patterns that are non-obvious. Be switched on to learn and be curious!

Experiment your assumptions and ideas on how it is been expressed and utilize in the system. Understand the perceived value of your original ideas through dissemination of any means and collate feedbacks from all of that to know if your ideas are scalable of not.

A/B testing really works when refining your content strategy to establish thought leadership. I have found the following to work well: 1. Create an editorial plan with broad topics you want to share in your niche. 2. Use this plan to create various formats of content around the pillar - so a long-form and short form content with images or info graphics. 3. Test the content with small variations and use the data to refine the original strategy

I urge thought-leaders to embrace failure as a path to originality. Often, the most valuable insights emerge when things don’t go as planned. I've learned to view each 'failure' as a precious opportunity for learning and discovery. By examining what didn't work and why, you uncover unique patterns that can pave your way to genuine breakthroughs. In essence, failure-friendliness isn't just a mindset, it's a strategic tool for innovation.

Experiment, learn, iterate and repeat. So simple yet so often, many give up if something they shared doesn't receive the engagement they had hoped. One can only refine their craft by continuously learning and iterating through the feedback. Do this often!

Testing is where the rubber meets the road. It's about putting your theories into practice and your content out there. Not everything will fly, and that's okay. Each test gives you real-world feedback on what hits home with your audience. Think of it as a reality check for your ideas. Keep tweaking, keep testing, keep learning.

While reflection and continuous improvement are pivotal, I think the method of documentation is important, a robust habit of journaling. Documenting your thoughts, experiments, insights, and feedback received helps to connect the dots over time. Reviewing these notes sparks new ideas and prevents reiteration of past mistakes. It's like having a dialogue with your past self to co-create future insights. So, for thought leaders striving for originality, I highly recommend cultivating the practice of mindful documentation.

Reflection is an outcome of feedback, criticism, rejection or acceptance. Any of those will take you back to the corner of your brainstorming room to see how your idea has impacted in the scheme of things. Evaluate the feedbacks and work on the ones necessary, you can not take every criticism serious as some may actually distract you from your focus. So use SWOT analysis to filter all of the prioritized feedback and work on them for improvement.

In my experience, reflecting on ideas is the essence of thought leadership. It takes weeks, sometimes months, to crystalize original ideas. I’d go further and say A/B test your thought leadership strategy. Share your ideas in a variety of formats and channels and use the results to see what resonates with your target audience.

Like any other activity you do, take time to reflect and write down your "feelings" toward this. Then, make a calculated judgement on the balance of emotions/logic and utilise frameworks to help with this. It doesn't need to be superformal but needs a system in place to make it more effective and measurable. Do this enough times and you will have a working system that you can feed ideas to, reflect, change, improve and redistribute.

Thought leaders are meant to leverage on technology to help boost social, personal, economical and professional capacity in a mixed and diverse colours of people with difference culture through collaboration on impactful projects, through networking just like here presently. Like minds do awesome thing together if the goal and vision aligns.

Thought leadership is a team sport! Co-author research, whitepapers, guest blogs and host joint webinars with people who supplement your knowledge and challenge your thinking. In my experience, it not only boosts visibility but builds trust and credibility too

If an opportunity arises for you to be interviewed, it's an excellent way to co-collaborate and have fun learning from another leader. Collaborating via joining another thought leader's podcast is extremely helpful. In my experience, we discussed relevant topics, shared insights, and the media landscape. The conversation was mutually beneficial, powerful, and valuable. Following the filming, we shared clips on our social media channels to further the exposure and grow our networks.

Thought leadership is a collaborative effort, in essence. It gathers, analyses, reflects, gathers insight and feedback, and subsequently improves. You need collaboration for all these steps to supercharge your efforts and maximum effectiveness. Collaboration helps you organise, hear different perspectives, obtain feedback, test and experiment, and improve. Why wouldn't you?

You should also: - Dive deep into the areas of your interest. - Be consistent in the thoughts that you want to put out, especially that are personal to you. - Not be afraid of criticism or critical feedback when you voice your opinions, because it might not fit well with others. - Earn the expertise in your field by doing collaborative major and micro projects, enabling you to earn certificates and accolades to give weight to your thoughts and voice. - Continue to ask yourself why does a certain issue matter to you and impact you to a larger scale. - Continue to analyse the implications of your thoughts on yourself and on your immediate network to chisel the tonality and impact for a longer period.

Know who you are. Know what you stand for, be clear on your core values, and know why you do what you do. It's our life experiences that have taken us this far. And it's that that authenticity that differentiates us. Those make for great principles, stories, and learnings We can only aim to be the best versions of ourselves after all - everyone else is already taken.

When you just focus on your ideas and you like the way you think you don’t have to worry about plagiarism. It’s easy to intentionally or inadvertently copy someone else if you’re constantly looking outside of yourself for inspiration. Don’t worry about what other people are doing and you’ll be fine.

Fostering original ideas as a thought leader hinges on authenticity—rooting concepts in genuine insights and experiences. It’s about purposefully championing ideas that strive to elevate lives and aid meaningful causes. These ideas must create societal value, transcending profit to reflect selfless ambition. By aligning vision with altruism, a thought leader sets the stage for innovation that resonates and endures.

I think the question is wrong. A thought leader IS someone with original ideas, by definition. So, we need to flip the question: how to develop original ideas in order to become a thought leader. The answer: immersing yourself into a topic and become a true expert. After years and years of experience, reading, practicing and learning, the stream of original ideas becomes hard to stop.

I think original is a subjective term. Some of the greatest thought leadership I've seen is incremental, it adds something to the existing thinking and conversation yet may not be original in the absolute sense.

Challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zone and explore new experiences is a powerful way to stay motivated and develop innovative ideas. Seeing things from multiple perspectives grants a fresh outlook on diverse topics. By establishing connections between seemingly unrelated disciplines and drawing inspiration from unconventional sources, we can generate innovative ideas that stand out. My motto is, "Why think outside the box when you can build a new one?"

There are no truly original ideas. We all craft 'new' ideas based on what we see, hear and feel. Even our mother tongue influences the type of ideas we create. The real challenge lies in cultivating a unique perspective. That’s my focus. I observe the conversations around me and take a stance with my intuition and experience.
