How can team leaders ensure their Manufacturing Operations team meets safety standards?

1/2 1- Foster a culture of safety within the team and set zero tolerance against safety issues and ensure that all team members receive proper training, use of equipment, handling hazardous materials and emergency procedures. 2- self audit and patroling throgh measurable 4M check sheets, perform honest mock drills & measure the effectiveness of mock drills. 3- ensure equipment is well-maintained and operators fairly filling CLIT check sheet, quipment are equipped with guard and earthing, machines have safety sensors, duel hand operated and all people have proper PPE's. 4- There must be clear process for reporting incidents, accidents, and near misses and shop floor operators must be fearless in reporting of near misses and unsafe act

2/2 5- safety culture is like brooming of stairs it only effective when you broom from upward to downward and same way top management should demonstrate a strong commitment to safety by adhering to protocols and modeling safe behavior because most of safety culture get failure because of management just consider safety compliance for compile govt rules so need to create a culture for respecting compliances with local, state, and national safety regulations relevant to the manufacturing industry.

Team leaders should clearly define and communicate the safety goals, objectives, and indicators, and how they align with the overall business strategy and vision. They should also explain the roles and duties of each team member, and the consequences of not following the safety rules or protocols.

If you have brainstorming sessions for risks, always ask for wild/off the wall type risks (i.e. employee slips on banana peel in break room). This could lead to lots of good risks that would otherwise be overlooked.

Work multiple controls, preferably from multiple layers of the hierarchy of controls. For example, include signs, WI/SOP, and PPE with engineering controls (guards and barriers).

Use One Point Lessons to communicate new hazards, procedures, and expectations. These lessons should be trained by team leads, and documented. These lessons can be compiled annually and implemented into existing WIs/SOPs during annual reviews.

Shop floor patrolling is a key to ensure that the safe practices are being followed Conventional tools like STOP cards also are always helpful During patrolling or otherwise , an unsafe act should never be ignored , rather stopped / checked or else that becomes the accepted behavior Rewarding is fine , but if the employees have been trained & certified & still perform unsafe acts , consequential management is a must .
