Network, network, network! A lot like the real estate industry where location is key, so it is with networking. Being present and in front of decision-makers, getting involved at an event or conference is a great way for you to see and possibly more important, to be seen! Take a chance, get yourself into a conversation with leaders, colleagues and people you want to emulate. You may surprise yourself with your knowledge and impress someone important.

Few considerations to have when planning to network through sports events and conferences in India: - Often these events and conferences tend to feature the same set of people. They may not all be key stakeholders or decision makers in the ecosystem and hence their views, although spoken eloquently, might be superficial. Choose wisely. - Seek to understand if the primary purpose of the speakers/guests is to share knowledge and experience with the audience or gain visibility for themselves or their firm(s). - Avoid going with a very fixed mindset of meeting certain individuals for networking. Joining and contributing across different online groups and communities will take you a long way though ensuring you keep an eye out for information about offline events is actually what will make you good connections in the industry. Going out there and meeting people, putting a face to a name and sharing ideas and opinions in an offline setting is needed in a post-Covid world.

I came up as an intern and the lessons (both positive and not so positive…. There are plenty of both) are what made me who I am. Working ground up showing your managers and those above you that you are willing to do “the work” will hurl you forward and set you up for a career in the industry. I am a proponent of the internship/grad assistant practical learning! There is nothing more complete for someone coming up in the industry.

Having someone you can speak to openly and honestly about your progress in this or any industry is an important tool for anyone looking to advance. Through The International Association of Venue Managers, I had the opportunity to be a mentee for an industry leader, it opened up a lot of doors for me and really made me think. I am proud now to serve as a mentor now for IAVM and others as I now have a more established career myself. Intrinsically satisfying to share experience but knowing that the mentee is gaining a world of knowledge and some additional networking opportunities!

Finding a coach is easy. Getting mentored is a little more specific and personal. A good coach identifies mechanisms to improve. A good mentor outlines pit falls and obstacles that may be encountered, and usually these are from personal experience. That said, it is highly likely that a coach will become a mentor if their is a like minded connection.

Gracias a ello he podido contactar y conocer a grandes profesionales del sector, así como mantener contacto con aquellos que hacía mucho tiempo no hablaba o me comunicaba. He ido evolucionando en los contenidos, creando mi propia Newsletter y gracias a toda esa dedicación, he conocido a grandes profesionales y mejores personas -tanto del sector como de otras industrias-, así como he colaborado en diferentes eventos con otros grandes profesionales. En mi experiencia, crear y compartir contenido ha tenido un gran retorno, en muchos aspectos.

Definitivamente el uso de redes sociales es una herramienta que abre puertas de diversos sectores tanto en el ámbito público como el privado. Sin embargo, para generar confianza en la audiencia es necesario crear una marca que sea fácilmente identificable y que provea contenido de valor a la comunidad. Con las herramientas de que disponemos actualmente es relativamente sencillo llegar a cualquier tipo de audiencia, el reto está en el contenido que habremos de generar. Para lograrlo debemos tener muy claros los objetivos que queremos alcanzar y enfocar todos los esfuerzos hacia conseguirlos, eso creo yo que es fundamental.

Linkedln me ha servido para contactar, en algunos casos, y conocer en otros, a muchos profesionales del sector, y más tarde en Ferias, eventos y acciones específicas de network reforzar y afianzar ese contacto. En muchos casos gracias a ello completar colaboraciones que hace que el propósito se vea enormemente cumplido.
