This model needs both operators and vendors to be in it. In as much as many are not willing to admit it, the business model(s) behind some products in the market implies planned obsolescence - which requires the operator to REPLACE after some time. Another issue is the serendipity of some of the advancements driving RAN technology, and the disruption they cause. This particularly affects active equipment. Another problem is the evolution of the regulatory environments together with the standardisation that that goes along with it - especially given the multiplicity of motives behind it all.
