How can Quality Assurance professionals prioritize quality over speed?

Certainly, this is most important for QA professionals and requires more focus and discipline. Here are some key inputs: - Understand the business context including personas in which the application is expected to be used - Understand the detailed design/architecture of the application rather than just a high-level understanding - Have a detailed list of various types of tests (NFRs) to be performed for overall quality assessment and not just functional testing which is agreed upon by the entire team - Agreement and publishing release criteria that everyone adheres to without any doubts - Acquire the skill to anticipate issues in advance and pro-actively highlight them - Ability to communicate risks/challenges comfortably across team

Well, this topic can be discussed in several dimensions. Quality vs Speed: It depends on the situations which one overrides the priority. But the thumb rule is : What ever the speed QA works to deliver the product, if the product does not useful for the customers for the desired results then no use the speed. Quality overrides the Speed. Because without desired quality the product will be not useful. Other Dimension: Even if you are too much care about Quality of the product and keep dragging the delivery to have finest quality with out considering timelines by compromising the speed. Again the need of the moment for the customers is gone, not much use of the product. Ex: You are delivering a high quality CAKE after the birthday date.

There is no bug-free software; unless we're talking about a very (very!) simple product. Worse: bug fixes can introduce other bugs, sometimes in unexpected or 'obscure' areas of your product. And, no, your automated tests might not catch these new regressions. Hence the importance of concepts like "Acceptance Criteria", "Definition of Done", and "Quality Criteria". These checks should be built into every stage of the development process: user story, feature specification, unit tests, integration tests, and on. In the end you'll have to carefully assess the pros and cons of delaying a release for better quality; and for this you need well-defined, well-considered criteria that take into account a range of internal and external factors.

As a Quality Assurance professional at an organisation my priority should always be quality, no? At one company I worked at we used the Iron triangle as our north star. In this model you have quality at the heart (inside the triangle) and the three corners are scope, cost, and, time. The balance needs to be met between those three, as quality cannot afford to be sacrificed. We really need to be prioritising quality above all else and not sacrificing it. The cost of poor quality is an expense that has the potential to break the bank. A bad/poor reputation can take years to rebuild. How much will that cost? How long will that take? Is it worth the risk to sacrifice quality?

Ensuring Quality and speed are challenging but it is achievable by creating a good eco system including various Quality Metrics like Risk, Stakeholder involvement, KPI’s, Stage gate assessments, Technology Automation. We achieved quality over speed in QA by Prioritizing Quality Metrics and most importantly we built a robust Quality Culture system within the organization through continuous Improvements, Trainings, updating GAPs in SOPs, etc., Improved Communication channels, often leads to better long-term results, higher customer satisfaction, and fewer costs associated with fixing issues post-release.
