How can public spaces be designed sustainably?

Harnessing the power of nature to generate electricity, more greenery, and water recycling are all general aspects. However, all these points need to be analyzed in detail.

It is used for more than simply environmental reasons; it also has an impact on social and economic life, as well as future well-being. It is critical to incorporate sustainable building and disposal technologies from the start of a project to the finish of the process. La utilización de materiales e insumos reciclados que, con o sin ayuda del hombre se convierten en bancas, muebles, ladrillos que forman parte de nuevos espacios como parques (bancas de materiales reciclables por ejemplo) 3. Aprovechar la energía solar para crear estaciones de recarga de celulares, scooter o bicis y hasta vehículos eléctricos en espacios públicos 4. Utilizar caminos con cerámicos o pisos que capten energía solo con los pasos que dan las personas que transiten por ellos y destinarla a iluminar dichas vías

How can we make public spaces inclusive for all ? Will a visually impaired individual be able to access a public library? Will a person on a wheel chair access a public washroom? well that is will be true achievements everywhere!

Such great examples, I now wish to visit more of these places when I travel. One I could also think of and mention is, In Vienna, Austria, one notable example of a sustainable public space is the "Donauinsel" or Danube Island. The Donauinsel is an artificial island in the Danube River, created for flood protection and recreational purposes. It features extensive green areas, walking and cycling paths, and numerous recreational facilities. The design incorporates ecological considerations, providing a balance between urban development and natural landscapes.

We can begin by delving into local urban development initiatives, attending community workshops, and connecting with professionals in the field. Say, volunteering for park clean-ups not only can educate us about environmental issues but also allow us to actively contribute to positive change. Sharing these journeys on social media platforms will spark conversations and encourage others to join in as well. It's a collective effort that proves even small individual actions can make a tangible impact on the environmental, social, and economic facets of public spaces.

Getting involved in sustainable design in public spaces through volunteer work and community engagement would be an option. This could involve participating in tree planting initiatives, or community garden projects aimed at enhancing green spaces. Volunteering with organizations focused on sustainable urban development, such as local environmental groups or urban planning nonprofits, can also be impactful.
