For instance, we proactively shifted our management company and leasing processes entirely remote in 2019. Although we weren't anticipating the pandemic, our proactive adjustments based on feedback from our team and customers positioned us ahead of the curve. We were comfortable with these processes before many others in our industry adapted.

Training and Development in core practices One of the most important aspect for any property manager is to be adaptable and acceptable for change, this comes only by training and development. He should be interested to gain a lot of knowledge from dynamic change in environment right from technology to social awareness. Sustainability plays major role in terms of self livelihood and property managers should gain intense details about it and also to have hands on experience in AI, BIM etc so advancement can support for better economic savings. Mainly the stakeholders have equal responsibility in imparting teams to travel to discussions and locations so that sharing of information helps to implement better systems to operate.

Assuming that all the basic knowledge is in place, the most important thing for a property manager or an asset manager is to get away from the desk and visit the properties you are responsible for. Get "under the skin" and get a deep knowledge of the properties and the stakeholders (users, tenants, service providers etc.). I have known many asset managers who believed that properties could be managed and developed from the desk and by use of an Excel spreadsheet. It may work for a short while but never in the long run.

Stay abreast with the industry trends. Constant networking within the industry is an absolute force mutiplier. Be the proverbial jack of all trades and master of none. Be teachable in all scenarios.

How will you know about the changes in the industry if you are confined in your own? In my humble opinion, one has to join in different communities, explore and adapt. Then we can bring new learnings to the team. We should also be open to feedback and criticisms. Sometimes, the small things have greater impact.
