In my experience the best ways to help foster or stimulate creativity and innovation in a solution consulting or sales engineering team are brainstorming story sessions. These are far more effective when done in a group setting. The goal is to have everybody tell what they find works and how they are telling their technical story. This helps junior and senior members of an SC team build and hone their story telling skills. These can be formal sessions with an agenda, follow up items, etc. However, you may find informal quarterly meet ups which may include beers and bad jokes are a great way to get the creative juices flowing, help your team bonding and over come blocks. Either way you go about it taking notes is key to keeping it going.

As with any skill development, being intentional about growing the skill is critically important. While innovation and creativity can take place and grow in an ad hoc or fluid manner, I think it important to be intentional about growing these skills. Reserve time on your calendar each day or week to get away from your regular routine and dedicate time to growing these skills in yourself. Be intentional!
