Being a sales leader is extremely different than being a sales rep. The skill set is totally different. Find someone who has walked the path previously and learn all you can from them. Find a mentor, someone in sales leadership, and utilize them to expand your skill set, bounce ideas off of, and get as much feedback as possible.

Coaching is an essential part of personal growth, yet, I don't think we always understand that caching can come in any shape and form. In my experience, it is a matter of one's perspective, as I treat every 1on1, every review, and every management discussion as a sort of coaching session. I guess, that if I could have given one piece of advice myself at the start of my career, it would say - "Treat every positive or negative conversation; conversation you like and conversation you hate as coaching. Don't just be present at the meeting, but learn from it"

Learning is key. If you stop learning then consider yourself dead right away. When I came to IT, I didn't have a clue about sales automation, pipelines, CRM, scripts, and other tricky words. The best tip I can give when it comes to tools - a lot of them offer free demo calls to show you their capabilities. List the top 3-5 tools that you will need in your work and book a demo call. It will save you a lot of time when you don't have much!

Many of my colleagues are just doing operational jobs daily. That might be a good thing in the short term run or a good thing once you learn your job. However, once you evolve and understand your duties perfectly- start expanding your knowledge to the departments you work with daily. If you are in sales - try to understand why marketing is doing what they do, and learn its KPIs and goals. If you are in the Growth team - learn the challenges of your sales reps, and try to understand what they might want or contribute. I believe that the best way to grow your own knowledge and skills is to constantly expand your knowledge in your own field and the fields of related departments.

A reader lives 1,000 lives before they die, someone who never reads only lives one! Learn from others mistakes and successes! To be an effective leader that can connect with multiple types of personalities, having a growth mindset is key! There is so much content out there, so build a habit to constantly learn & this will provide so much value in your career. Leadership books, blogs, podcasts, & videos are all great resources when taken advantage of!

I am ready now and i can take the leadership roles, this statement should be a common one amongst the critical mass of sales persons in orgs , the challenge to lead shall be thrown and this shall give opportunities to young sales persons to try things differently own way and May result in making good leadership pipeline ultimately

I think that in most organizations the good "marker" for a promotion is still a good old - side project within the organization. By side project I mean the project that is partially or fully connected to the core goal of your department or a project that would contribute to achieving the goal. If you show dedication, out-of-the-box thinking, and will to make a change for the better you will get noticed and recognized.

Leadership is not defined by your job title. The world needs leaders and if you see an opportunity to be one, step up and do so. Not only will you feel better about yourself, but you will be expanding your skills and experiences. Leadership experience is very valuable and it is never too early to start. Do not wait around and expect someone to ask you to lead, just take the steps towards doing so!

Accountability is critical. Make these goals/aspirations clear, concise, and known to the people around you. This goes for both yourself and the people involved with your team. Don't forget to talk about the failures... Every failure provides the opportunity to grow!

Work should be more of a two-way street. That is, what you can contribute to your employer and its customers is super important. And what they can contribute to you is also super important. Is your potential future manager committed to supporting you, in the same way you're dedicating yourself to them? Be clear on the respective expectations and check back in on them frequently.

I think that there is one key element in this aspect - and that aspect is transparency. By transparency, I meant the ability to openly express your ambitions, communicate your successes and failures, and highlight the desired growth areas. All of the rest is just a beautiful topping or addition to that very simple yet super crucial component - transparency.

I'm unsure if this has changed much over the years; historically, your best shot at getting a new role will be through networking--not by applying to a job posting. Spend 90 percent of your time on the former.

Start leading now. Be. Do. Have. Start leading. Start helping others around find success and overcome challenges. Start collaborating with other team members more. Be encouraging. Listen more. Ask questions. Be a resource. Eventually, they will just give you the position.

Considerations: Find employers who value you despite the flexibility of your employment. If you are more than willing to go above and beyond find a management position that compensates you for the hours you put in . Sometimes taking a management role is taking more responsibilities than you can handle! However, if the employer is willing to help you grow that’s all someone needs to be part of a successful management team.
