This can affect their performance and lifespan, requiring proper protection and packaging to prevent breakage, corrosion, or contamination. Furthermore, optical fiber sensors need to be calibrated and standardized for accuracy and consistency of measurements. Additionally, they may require compensation for the effects of temperature, bending, or aging on the optical properties of the fiber. Lastly, optical fiber sensors are still relatively expensive and scarce compared to conventional sensors, often requiring more sophisticated equipment and skills to operate and maintain.
