How can a motivational speaker gain exposure to a wider audience?

I think more than having a niche, a clear message is far more important. What is your story about? What message do you want to impart? What experience are you drawing from that makes you the authentic expert in this case? Your audience do not just want to hear and see you; they want to feel and understand you and by having a clear, consistent and authentic message drawn from your core, you will allow them to experience just that????

In my opinion, many variables can contribute to exposure. Leverage of social media, seeking speaking opportunities are great ways to gain exposure. Personally, I prefer "word of mouth" advertising because a recommendation can lead to character references, which could lead to repeating customers. Ideally, if audience members trust the opinion of a co-worker or friend, a recommendation for a speaking engagement could generate exposure. Overall, I think there are a great deal of variables that could generate exposure and once a speaker polish their craft and build a great reputation; any variable can be utilized. :)

I have learned that your presence at other venues and the networking you do in those venues will give you more exposure. However, the small conversations you have within those venues are what truly matters. Having the confidence that you can contribute without taking away from the value of other content areas. You must be educated on the topic or area you are trying to break into in order to show your value to that industry.

While defining your niche and target audience is crucial, remember that beyond the "why" and "how," your authenticity and storytelling style are paramount. Your ability to communicate, both verbally and nonverbally, will resonate more deeply. Consider engaging in community work and giving forward to enhance exposure and credibility. Share your story authentically, demonstrating a genuine passion for solving a specific problem or helping your audience achieve a particular goal. By doing so, you not only position yourself as an expert but also create a meaningful connection that transcends the transactional.

There is only one way, trust me. Only one way to make the audience listen - WHAT YOU SAY OR TEACH, FOLLOW THAT FIRST. PERFORM IT OUT YOURSELF AND BUILD YOURSELF LIKE THAT. Your body language must tell that what you are saying is what you act out like.

Website is great however… The key element is traffic. I’d focus on a website once there is a certain level of reach. Otherwise is like having a beautiful shop but with no foot traffic. Basics first.

The area of Motivational Speaking has a great deal to do with Advanced Preparation and Understanding of the audience. Not just the number of people or individual profiles BUT the Reason they may be interested in a message we/I represent. For example, I support the Knowledge of SELF as a foundation upon which success can be pursued. I also support UNITY without barriers based on perceived Differences. For much of my life, I have lived with a public perception that I am different or inferior because of my ethnicity. The challenges inherent in being perceived as "less than" have been a motivating stimulus to working through them all through a professional and personal presentation of self beyond others' expectations.

Thought leadership branding for speakers is key. So YES, a succinct, clear CTA message and stunning branding on your website helps. It’s investing in “land you own” (eg, control your message, data, list, connection methods used to grow your followers & stay in touch). If you’ve ever seen folks locked out of their social profiles (which happens randomly on most channels, like “FB jail”), you’ll know how painfully disruptive those moments are. It’s cost MANY 5, 6, or 7 figure losses when sites go down at key moments. At a a minimum, have security & redundancy w/ your website. Back it up to cloud w/ a clone cooy sitting ready on a separate hosting platform. Don’t depend on “rented land” alone for your digital footprint.

Social media is a great way to get your voice and message out! The social media platform I am most active on is LinkedIn because I want to partner with people in a professional manner across different industries and area of expertise. I try to post on a regular cadence; but I don't get bent out of shape if I'm not contributing. Typically I like to share what I think would be helpful or relevant to my network :)

People often turn to social media when looking for speakers. I have gotten paid opportunities and been invited to speak at professional conferences based on content someone saw online. Social media can be a great way to introduce yourself to new audiences. People who would have never heard of you can “meet” you and get a sense of your content and speaking style. So, my best advice is to go for it! Get creative, be strategic and intentional, and use social media to your advantage. Pay attention to what works, and you will soon find your stride.

A lot of times we always wait until we have an audience to show what we can do but what about when you don't have one yet? Pull out your phone, set up your lights and give your message to the world. & the opportunities will begin to find you.??

Upload your speaker reel, one-sheet, easily downloadable demos! ?? recommendations ROCK ?? host live video, audio events ?? post, engage in others’ too ?? connect and REconnect using LinkedIn messaging! (Yes, folks love voice messages or personalized video outreach that’s swift and sincere!) Fill your programs, webinars, and sales funnel by nurturing warm leads and relationships with targeted folks in your audience niche. Schedule virtual coffees, capabilities briefings and more. Remember, PEOPLE need to hear you… make it easy for them to find you and say YES to hiring you!

Be social on social media. People don't like to talk to themselves often; so, respond back, engage in conversations, be ok with having mindful debates, and most importantly don't be afraid to be who you are. if you like to have fun and go places, show the real life of your commitment to being authentic.

Having a flexible range of articulation from being somewhat Streetwise and Board Room intelligence allows me to engage from a "Common Sense" platform. Common Sense is making applicable sense of conversations of engagement at all levels. It can be somewhat like an interpreter in Building Bridges in addition to Contributing to a Win-Win engagement for ALL.

Whenever you speak on stage you should always look at it as "What else do I or can I do to get more business from this one time speaking engagement. Most speaker just assume that because the audience saw you that they will automatically want to book you again or refer others. That's not their job. Have a plan and work that plan for gaining additional customers (gigs)

If you want to be a speaker you have to chase it. Truly, there are no speaker bookers who are sitting there waiting for the right event to offer you. There is only one way to be a good speaker and that is speak. A lot. Here is a list of places that I found opportunities to get unpaid speaking gigs. 1. Toastmasters 2. Rotary 3. Zonta 4. Lions 5. View 6. Chambers of Commerce 7. Libraries If you are friendly and your content is helpful and useful to others most people are happy to have a conversation with you.

Having a niche (mine is yoga for menopause) and using social media for greater exposure have been a big boost for me. I am a yoga teacher and, as a result of being on Instagram, I have reached many more women than if I was teaching yoga locally. Not to mention the number of opportunities that presented themself to me as a result of being on social media: from being featured in articles, to speaking on podcasts and at corporate events.

I have found the best speaking engagement opportunities through being part of organizations that support my target audience. Once I speak, people in the audience normally come up and ask if I can speak to their group. Last month I was the Keynote for the Delaware Prayer Breakfast. This was as a direct result of my participation at the National Prayer Breakfast. I am currently speaking to someone who asked me to go back and speak to their organization as a result of the Delaware engagement. It’s like a waterfall effect. Once I focus on making an impact, invitations come naturally. ??

Approach every interaction with genuine curiosity. As you take an interest in others, you will inevitably find mutually beneficial synergies amongst some of the individuals you speak with. And, even when you don't, you will walk away with new perspectives which will inevitably add to your database of experiences to draw from.

Growing your network is so beneficial for getting your name out there! In addition to building relationships with people that host events, don’t be afraid to collaborate with people on your network who may not host events but have other ways to help feature you and expand your audience. Try to find and build relationships with people who host podcasts, do regular live streams on social media, have email lists you could add value to, and so on. You’ll make friends, have more fun, and grow your audience all at the same time!

Absolutely, the network you build is crucial for growth as a speaker. Being a reference in your field hinges significantly on the strength of your connections. These networks are essential for broadcasting your message effectively. Remember, any member of your audience could potentially become a sponsor, a partner, or even the first to share and amplify your message. It's important to be mindful of the content of your message and continuously work on expanding your network. These connections often turn into your strongest allies, playing a pivotal role in your journey as a speaker.

In my expirience this is most important. You need to be seen heard and recognized as someone who have a credencial to help and advise You need to talk to people around you You need to show them that you care Social networks are great tool to do that

Swimmers have coaches. Actors have coaches. Speakers rarely have coaches. Why? Because most people who want to speak don't want to do it full time. They have competing interests and a limited budget. This is why full time speakers get booked more than part time speakers. Full time speakers invest in professional development. They have a budget allocated for it. They join professional speaking associations. They turn up to multiple online training sessions every month. They contribute to the discussions in these training events. This way other speakers know who you are and what you speak about. If they have a speaking offer they cannot fulfil now they can easily recommend other speakers. Investing in professional development pays.

As a motivational speaker, your growth is your audience's gain. Invest in your skills, your stories, your strengths. Educate Yourself: Stay curious. Learn constantly. Experience More: Live the tales you'll tell. Refine Your Craft: Practice is as important as performance. Motivation is a word that contains dynamics, some movement. That's how you have to move forward in terms of learning, skills, and knowledge

Finally, use online training programs or certificates in leadership, psychology, or similar subjects to increase the breadth of your expertise.

There's so much to consider but I'd like to say two things: 1. Get Good at speaking. Nothing replaces stage time ie being on stage or at the front of a room. Get that experience, there's no shortcut to that. And 2. Remember the golden rule. It's not about you it's about the audience. Serve them. Help to solve their problems or pain points. Encourage them, engage with them. Over deliver. Park the ego.

Many of these ideas are well worth looking into and should be considered if you want to gain higher exposure. My advice is to fish where the fish are. If you want higher exposure, meet, network, attend conferences and send out materials to those who are at that higher level and will book speakers and pay higher fees.

One of the best ways to connect with a wider audience is to pick scenarios and examples that resonate with the cultural and social experiences of your audience. These could be as specific as a local cultural issue or an international story, brand or case that the audience can relate to. The key point is for the audience to relate with the story but the icing is when the connection is more local or cultural.

Never underestimate the sheer power of your intention. Everything is connected to time, space, and the law of causation. All actions create lasting impressions that are stored in your mind. The amount of your heart ?? and soul that you invest in your actions determines the potency of these deposited karmic impressions. These impressions eventually bear fruit and generate outcomes in your reality. As such, it is important to become more mindful of your thoughts, words, deeds/actions. To do so, do yoga and meditation. Practice, practice, and then practice more. You will develop clarity of mind and heart. You will experience the knowing of your unlimited potential and live it unapologetically. Then you will manifest your intention. ??

Remember, consistency and authenticity are key. Continuously refine your message, engage with your audience, and adapt your approach based on the feedback you receive. Building a wider audience takes time, but strategic efforts can lead to sustained growth and increased exposure.
