In case your mentor is a quality professional, make sure you learn as much as possible from him.

I think a good ideea is to find courses and collaborating opportunities where mentoring is somehow included. Also having and being mentor at workplace or related can be of benefit for immediate feedback on both technical and soft skills, for both parts.

Think of a mentor as a sounding board, someone who has spent enough time in the industry to have the maturity to look at things holistically when advising you on anything. A mentor must provide unbiased and fruitful advice that would help you gain that level of maturity and understanding about reacting to certain situations and dealing with them in a professional manner. System architecture is as much about people and businesses as it is about software systems. A good mentor will guide you to understand this and build that intuition to build systems that might have compromises due to people or business aspects but it will still stand the test of time.
