How can HIT support evidence-based practice and knowledge translation for CDS and QI?
Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) is the use of computers, software, and data to improve the delivery and quality of health care services. One of the main goals of HIT is to support evidence-based practice (EBP) and knowledge translation (KT) for clinical decision support (CDS) and quality improvement (QI). EBP is the use of the best available research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences to make informed decisions about patient care. KT is the process of moving research findings into practice, policy, and education. CDS is the provision of timely, relevant, and personalized information and guidance to clinicians and patients at the point of care. QI is the systematic and continuous measurement and improvement of health care processes and outcomes. In this article, we will explore how HIT can support EBP and KT for CDS and QI in six ways.
