I believe leaders in healthcare should leverage any form of technology that will give them time to focus on the people aspect of being a leader. Spending 1:1 time with employees is invaluable in regards to retention, and if a DSS can give you time back it should be utilized to the fullest. Recreating the wheel for the mere sake of doing so is a recipe for burnout.

DSS provides great flexibility to healthcare mangers and individuals in getting generalised details and any new instance and patterns to a specific pathway. It only works as a tool to analyse and make the decision. The decision is still yours. It process all the time consuming, mind boggling I'm some cases labour intensive work and present to you a simple explainable dash board that gives you the current situation and projected outcome. It's like a drone fighter at the end of the line there is a human who need to make a decision or act on one. DSS are support based instruments introduced in the late 70s and have a come a long way they are an insightful tool in your processing towards an outcome.

As with any technology, it is only as good as the utilization. Although AI based options are becoming more useful, I think caution is necessary to ensure it doesn't become a replacement for the human aspect. We are a struggling work force that lacks the personal and social interactions that lead to problems with retention, merit based promotion and raises, as well as suffering teamwork. Use DSS as a tool and utilize it as such to avoid it becoming another impersonal, overused technology.
