Cultural sensitivity, fostered through training, bridges gaps and creates harmony. For tech teams, CI/CD practices integrate code changes, ensuring consistency. True success in global setups requires embracing diversity, patience, and leveraging each location's strengths.

One of the very first step is identifying a project leader clearly who is accountable for the success of the project. There should be no ambiguity in terms of who will align the strategy for project execution. The leadership style of the person could be different obviously! Second, IMO, would be a clear and crisp communication plan. Daily scrums, weekly updates, steering co, change management, milestone achievement communication etc should be part of the plan.

RACI is for detailed breakdown to task level accountability. From a project perspective, it is almost impossible to list out all the tasks. Thus, I find project org-charts easier to allocate responsibility and accountability. However, the most important point is empowerment. For example, the PM must empower the SME to engage vendor in design review and make the decision in the interests of the company and project. Alot of remote project team fails due to control still being centralized in 1 geographical location. Thus, often missing out on speedy resolutions and suffering bigger escalation from slow responses.

Not only managers need to focus on the communication flow but it is important to have key members on each time zone teams to be responsible for having a meeting before starting the shift time and at the end of it. Depending on the size of your team, you may need to elect more or less key members who will have the responsibility of checking what is pending and what has been already addressed during the shift.
