1 Adjust reagents

It is important to understand what parameters, or "levers" there are and the relative order to move through to optimize each one. The starting point will almost always be the grindsize. The liberation is key, however with flotation too fine creates too much surface area that will begin causing more problems at a tipping more, I.e. through loss of cell efficiency, reagent consumption, slime generation ect. Other item is understand the regional environment and how that relates. If you have high energy costs then you will need higher additional recovery for grinding finer. If you are in BC with 5 to 6 cent kwh then the payoff on grinding can be low.

Tonnage - Residence Time Processing more tonnage than necessary can result in greater economic losses and decrease selectivity in the flotation process. An excess of material forces flotation cells to operate beyond their optimal capacity, reducing the residence time of the mineral necessary for effective flotation. This leads to economically valuable minerals ending up in waste, which not only represents a waste of valuable resources but also a significant financial loss due to the non-recovery of minerals of interest.
