Currently, only empathy and its derivatives will allow humanity to survive, not ceaseless competition and strife. The logical consequence of this thesis is its application to every sphere of human life, including Materials Science.

Empathy is not a trait that you are born with, but rather a skill that you can learn and refine with practice and feedback. To develop empathy in materials science, one should become familiar with the history, culture, and values of the people they work with, and appreciate their diversity and contributions. Additionally, open-ended questions should be asked and the answers should be listened to attentively without interruption or imposing views. Paraphrasing and reflecting can be used to check understanding and show interest, as well as empathic statements such as "I can see how you feel..." or "I appreciate your effort...". Body language and tone of voice can also be used to express empathy and sincerity. Lastly, feedback and suggestions from others should be sought to improve empathy and communication skills.

To develop empathy in materials science, it's necessary to shape it within oneself first. There's no other way. However, I'm unsure whether 'learning' empathy is possible or if this trait may (but doesn't have to) exclusively emerge through individual experiences of each person. Personally, I am much more inclined towards the latter option.
