These transactions are validated by network nodes based on the blockchain's consensus mechanism. Once validated, they are immutably recorded on the blockchain. Many dApps incorporate tokens for transactions or incentives, and they may use decentralized storage like IPFS for data. Built on shared standards, these dApps often can interoperate, allowing assets or data to move seamlessly between different applications.

dApps offer many advantages due to their decentralized nature: they are resistant to censorship and single points of failure, promoting greater transparency and trust through open-source code and immutable records on the blockchain. They reduce intermediaries, potentially leading to cost savings and efficiency improvements for users. Furthermore, their token-based economies can incentivize user participation and engagement, and their interoperability allows seamless interaction between different applications within the blockchain ecosystem.

I believe that the risks and downsides of dApps (mostly if we talk about smart contracts) are others: 1) if on public blockchain, one depends on the fee variations of that blockchain. Today a transaction that uses the dApp may cost 10 cents, and in a month may cost 5 dollars; 2) code posted in a blockchain transaction cannot be edited, so if there are bugs, those remains there (with all the risk that it can imply); 3) if dApp uses a gateway smart contract (so that the code can be updated) then users must trust whoever has the keys of the account that can change what smart contract is actually executed, and this means losing all the value of having a dApp; 4) Using 3rd party libraries can lead to disasters, and everyone does... etc...

It faces several challenges: scalability issues can hinder their performance, especially on networks with high congestion. Their decentralized nature can complicate user experience, often requiring users to manage private keys and understand blockchain nuances. Interoperability between different blockchains remains a work in progress. Security vulnerabilities in smart contracts can lead to significant losses, as seen in some high-profile hacks. Furthermore, regulatory uncertainty surrounding dApps and associated tokens can pose legal and compliance risks, and the volatility of cryptocurrency markets can impact the stability of token-driven dApp economies.

I would add that for "private" blockchain it would be smart to consider core node software embedded decentralised applications, that use special kind of transaction to process the required functionalities. For example for the supply chain, for solutions dedicated to a specific industry, etc.

Integrating dApps in our work can depend on the nature of our profession or business. For instance, if we are in finance or supply chain management, dApps can provide transparent, tamper-proof record-keeping and streamline transactions by eliminating intermediaries. Writers or content creators can use dApps to ensure they are fairly compensated via smart contracts or to establish provable digital rights to their work. Developers and IT professionals might utilize dApps to build decentralized platforms or applications, ensuring data integrity and security. Educators and researchers could benefit from dApps by storing and verifying credentials or academic records on the blockchain.
