Yikes! Where to begin. To track sales efforts means the sales team has to spend valuable time inputting data into a CRM. Not motivating. And nobody wants to be compared to their peers publicly. Dashboards and leader boards only serve to tell the top performers that they’re great, and tell the bottom performers that they are struggling. Not motivating. Try personalized coaching instead. These tracking methods only check the box for a sales operations person that has to justify their existence. Of course data must be used to design incentive programs, otherwise quotas are demotivating. If you can provide sales teams with real time data on their performance to quota, and how that affects their incentive pay, that can be a true motivator.

Totally agree. But you have to seriously learn how to properly coach first. Then, travel with your sales team. Use the Golden five minutes after the call to coach the sales person on what worked and what didn’t and discuss how to improve. This will improve their performance. Training is critical, and it’s delivery is even more so. If you assign a sales team to go watch an online video, your results will be poor. Have the same sales team train in-person, collectively learning and interacting on a critical topic, your results will be much better.

Usually we don't want to show weakness but it is good now wich is tema weakness. To develop better skill and knowlegde, manager shoud always be there to help with advice, practice and good word. Coaching is also very importan if it si possible to give one.

How to do it? 1) Share the quarterly or yearly sales target with the seller. 2) The seller should build out their attainment strategy for the period with input and output metrics and milestones to achieve. 3) Have a kick-off meeting in which the seller outlines their strategy and the manager asks questions to ensure all aspects are considered. Utilize top-selling behaviors ?? I would like to share one initiative we took with our sales team. 1) We looked at the top performers data and? behaviors. Example: cold calls / days. 2) We create 1-day competitions in which sellers are rewarded for mimicking one of the top-selling behaviors. Example: Rewarding sellers with the highest number of cold calls. 3) Present to the sales force what was possible if sellers focused on the behaviors. Example: Significantly higher sales outcome based on the higher number of cold calls. Why does this work? We often limit ourselves based on our beliefs. This initiative helped to break existing behaviors for one day and try something new to see if it could be successful.

I'm a big fan of behavioral data. Kpis are lagging indicators. Behavioral data are leading indicators. Once you map out the path to success with such detail, you will be able to coach surgically instead of generally. This then becomes a system that will allow you to hit goals month after month. Who wouldn't be motivated with progress and achievement?

I'm a hard believer that people can change and grow, if they want to. That's why I always try to hire for attitude rather than pure knowledge. Most of our growth and results come from our believes in ourselves and in processes or things. If a salesperson doesn't think that their products or company are great, you will have a hard time changing that, as facts may not be enough. They will need a team of supercharged individuals around, but if that also is not enough, the question of whether this job is right for them is justified. If people don't believe in themselves, this is where wonder can happen. Give them trust, praise every improvement, strive for little early successes and watch them thrive and grow.
