Part-1: Customizing / Personalizing, what's in the word. Just always respect the data model in whatever you want to touch and modify. Before anything touched, do understand the full functionality covered in the current state, before any modification made. And not only what's currently in use, but what the potential of the ERP system is over this part of the data model.

Part-2: Ignoring parts that are currently not in use may seem a quick win, but once some extra functionality will get used, the whole standard may collapse, just by your quick one. It may take some time find the root cause, but believe me: the creator can always be retrieved and for sure you or your company will be mentioned. Quality of any change is a careful created and agreed design in where the data model is centrally positioned. All the rest is cosmetics to represent this data in some way.

Testing is a must, but there are some challenges to overcome: Not all the key users are good testers, budgets used to be short for testing phases, and testing data can't be the production data. It's important to keep in mind that in a project plan, sometimes, a test phase has to be longer than the build phase.

No testing, no implementation! Make sure upfront some scenario's are defined by the initiator from customer side, what to do? / what to expect? The compiler is of course the first test a new program needs to survive. But not only that, how about: is the data still consistent, is performance acceptable, is the access and the output within the authorized, don't I disrupt something else, is some documentation created, will a next developer be able to understand what is created/modified. Demo Recording - Record a live video call demonstration of the custom setup with your end users on the call. Answer any questions your end users have and send them the session recording immediately following the call. They can refer back to the recording at any time; it's training material and documentation in one and it lasts forever. 2. Written Documentation - Create a guide with clear screenshots and instructions that explain how to use and maintain the custom setup. Written documentation is an industry best practice and a lifeline for teams that experience turnover.

You can create as many training video's and screenshot's from any system, nothing beats on hand experience. Who runs a marathon without at least some training? Any new device will have some logical interface steps [I do hope] and some special features you need to get acquainted with. So yes, without at least some basic training and understanding, any ERP-implementation will fail for non-trained users. "Try before you die", but please take some exercise prior to pick-up the daily business in a new system, without a training. We call it a training.
