How can computer vision detect human emotions in robotics?

There is no consistent pattern in displaying emotions. The way people convey their emotions varies significantly based on a number of factors so emotion recognition using multiple data streams is a good way to get the most accurate results. While a person may smile but yet be very agitated, a emotion recognition algorithm using only facial expressions will give the wrong solution but using pose of the person along with the facial expressions is bound to give answers which are closer to the actual truth.

On the other hand, if the student is confused the pace can be reduced. There are many inferences that can be made from patterns of learning. Some students need a break every 30 mins to allow for continued focus on the material while some students can go on for hours at a time. The patterns of emotions can give us this information to make personalized learning experiences.

The first step would require extracting the desired features, for eg. angle of eyebrows, curvature of lips, etc. in facial expressions and positions of hands, tilt of head, etc. for gesture recognition. Next step would be to employ a model that can predict the emotion of the subject with reasonable accuracy (>90%) Third step includes using Reinforcement Learning techniques to minimize the error in detecting emotions, so as to improve the accuracy. Some of the things to take care of - 1) Selection of model(s) 2) Quality and quantity of training dataset 3) Fitting of the model Thus we can correctly recognise human emotions.
