This provides the necessary constraints and conditions to have amazingly complicated things develop. Things that would be hard to envision and design from a blank sheet. We design simple things and add complexity as we need to overcome problems. Nature can help us envision the complicated things and bring them back down to the simple.

If you're trying to design a system, it's a good idea to see if there's a niche in nature where doing the same thing is an advantage. Looking at those animals will probably give you a good place to start.
