As a screenwriter, I tend to lean toward an enthralling answer, emphasizing personal talent, but as a 76 year old existentialist, I feel compelled to express the gravity of ageism. In life, my wife and I feel isolated in public, ignored, and almost "in the way" of youth. Simply, just like racism, ageism is best diluted by creating involvement and normality in a mix of ages among characters.

Si analizas el impacto de la discriminación por edad en la industria cinematográfica, ?tú que ves? ?Qué ves constantemente en películas, series, anuncios publicitarios? La discriminación por edad no afecta por igual a hombres que a mujeres. Promover contenidos audiovisuales en donde se vea con total normalidad parejas donde el hombre supera (y con mucho) la edad de las mujeres no ayuda en nada a que estas últimas, sufran doblemente esta discriminación. Una, por edad. Y otra, por el hecho de ser mujeres y de tener que mantener contra viento y marea esa imagen de juventud (y belleza) imposible de mantener en el tiempo. Necesitamos combatir el edadismo incidiendo en todos aquellos aspectos a tener en cuenta.

I think this is primarily a women's issue and we have been losing ground. In Canada, you are no longer called a mother, medical professionals are using term birth person. Immigration (from countries where women are chattel and live in Canada under the same conditions), inequity in employment, "perceptions of women" - we don't really get credit for being more emotionally intelligent or right brained, maternity leave exceeding a year encouraging women out of labour force, so many shifts in society weakening women. Ageism is another layer on top of this. Baby boomers in Canada are the richest and longest surviving generation, past and future. They have more wealth and power in Canada compared to any group other than immigrants.
