When we can identify why the person is giving us feedback and what they hope to achieve by giving it, we can better prepare ourselves to be in the best state of mind to receive it.

Establece un plan de acción con metas y objetivos, de lo macro a lo micro, y comprueba que sean realistas contigo y con los recursos que dispones, tanto personales como económicos. Whenever it comes to clarifying it's really helpful to ask the right questions. Sometimes we tend to generalize, with phrases like: Hey they are commenting... I have been told... Sometimes you've done... And here's where the key questions should come: Who is commenting? What's been told? Which is the expected correction? How many times? When? And also how can I correct this...followed by an explained action. Whenever we receive a generalized feedback is not enough for us, unless we know specifically what should we correct.

One key thing is to get feedback from 360 degrees. Meaning people you report to, people who report to you, and people in the same or similar level as you. Be open to feedback from all directions.

One thing I've found helpful in applying feedback strategically, is not to try and implement everything all at once! You end up all confused and just overwhelmed by the workload. Instead, target a maximum of three areas of feedback to focus on, and implement that very well. Choose those three "umbrella" issues whose improvement will naturally result in you addressing the bulk of the feedback issues raised. I find that applying the 80/20 rule works wonders here. Tackling 20% of feedback factors that result in 80% overall effectiveness, is the way to go. Don't address feedback merely to please your boss or someone else. Rather, develop a mindset of genuine personal continuous improvement & organizational effectiveness.

An example I have seen in evaluating your feedback progress, is developing a simple scoring system, that measures your improvement across a variety of metrics. By asking the people who gave you feedback to regularly evaluate you on the same criteria over a period of time, helps you track your progress/improvement. It is very important that you establish great rapport with your evaluators, and not be defensive or condescending. Don't view the progress exercise as a chore to be tolerated .. but rather as a stepping stone to the land of excellence. Thus, be excited ... Be VERY excited!!!

Continuous Learning: Stay current by attending workshops, taking online courses, and seeking mentorship from experienced professionals. 2. Find the most credible people you can find who disagree with your perspective and listen to them. Otherwise, you risk creating an echo chamber and limiting your thinking/innovation.

All of the above is necessary when using feedback to make empowered choices. But alerts consider the source. If you question the motive or their desire to see you make your goals, then don’t accept the feedback. Why? Because you make yourself susceptible to unnecessary angst & making decisions you can’t stand by if they fail. Where the advice is in-direct say online.. from a book or podcast.. then you have to evaluate your why, and if it lines up, take a chance. But be completely honest with what you’re willing to do. Trust the hesitation.. sometimes it’s not fear it’s discernment. Learn the difference.

I would add “practice discernment” when it comes to feedback. While remaining open to feedback is important, not all feedback is valuable feedback. Consider the person that feedback is coming from. Are they someone you look up to? Someone you respect and admire? Someone who has achieved what you are striving for? Then that is potentially someone who's feedback you might want to give more weight to. If the feedback is coming from someone who you don't admire or look up to and isn't where you want to be, listen openly, but be mindful of how much weight you give to their feedback. And no matter who the feedback is coming from, discern what feels relevant and important to you and leave the rest.
