Feedback is an art and one needs to be a good artist to get the best of output from the receiver. The giver of feedback should be highly focused on evidentiary aspects. No beating around the bush Feedback should be instantaneous and not accumulated to be given. Then it becomes akin to flogging the proverbial dead horse. Feedback can be uni or bi directional depending upon the context. When giving feedback one should be totally thorough and expect a few questions to make it highly constructive. Positive reinforcement of course correction is the best possible way to take feedback to it's eventual goal of making the receiver more inclined to do better. Never should a feedback be harsh or arbitrary since they do more harm than good.

Encouragement doesnt only come from words , it emanates from the action, so the respect of opinion is something everyone talks about a lot but doesn’t understand, There are two aspects of this , one is that people are encouraged to express opinion, second they should understand at same time that the right to express an opinion is more duty than rights and there is potential chance that the leadership may not agree with it but not without a logical explanation This will always encourage a meaningful dialogue , one which benefits the individual, the team and the organisation at same time

I recently have this example to a group . As a leader , you can create open door policy but just creating a policy isn’t enough . Reinforcing it regularly and making it happen is what’s required

In one of my previous positions, my boss always left the door of her office open. I asked her about it one day and she said there is a difference between telling people you have an open door policy (safe space) and demonstrating that you have an open door policy. She said she would rather show people that she had an open door policy than say it, and not back it up when push came to shove. Every member of that team knew that she meant it and that at any moment, they could go into her office, close the door and be heard and understood. I have nothing but absolute respect for her to this day for creating that safe space for everyone on our team.

Any input is just a word till an action is based on that and actions as they say speaks louder than words A plan made and an action taken on a input always gives the feel of being encouraged as well as honoured It helps team building based on honest reviews , inputs as well as the feeling of ownership for the work by all team members which eventually manifests as better team effort and better results

Fully agreed. Always willing to see the other person/s point of view/s and empathy is important. As the facilitator one must never be seen as siding with either. Your responsibility is to resolve the conflict so as to build the team.

There is also a need to document the suggestions/ contributions received from the participants. The discussion held around those suggestions and the consensus outcomes. This should be treated as success story. This could be used as a model for grooming new teams
