I disagree with this entirely. The energy transition is one of the most profound industrial shifts of our epoch. It's greater than the industrial revolution. We are retooling how we build and run EVERYTHING. Massive societal shifts on that scale require all hands on deck. I think solar installers is one of the most sought after skilled labor jobs in the U.S. at the moment. But beyond those technical jobs are all of the support necessary to advance this transition. Sales, marketing, coding, design, policy, EVERYTHING. It will all be crucial to getting society over the finish line and into a position where we can sustainably live and produce everything we require for a 10 billion-person planet. So don't be afraid - just jump in!

For example, installers need strong technical skills to handle the physical aspects of PV system installation. However, PV technical salesperson leverage communication and customer service expertise to connect with potential clients effectively. Therefore, if you're interested in a solar career, map out your desired path within the industry first. This involves understanding job descriptions, the required skills and qualifications for each role. Then, conduct a self-assessment to analyze your own skill set and identify any gaps. Finally, develop a plan to address those gaps and fill them in.

Demand for renewables and the wider use of it needs to be decoupled from politics. At a larger scale, the energy transition towards a low carbon future cannot be based on political tendencies. From my work advising governments in many countries I can confirm that policy and regulation is critical in enabling renewable energy to flourish. If a country still has less than 10% of their electricity generation from solar and wind, poor policy is likely to blame. But much more interesting is to try and understand the reasons for this: it is rarely a lack of good advice, or a lack of expertise. In my experience the main impediment is vested interests, specifically those that stand to lose out. This may be fossil fuel generators or fuel importers, who are often well connected. Understand the underlying political economy and you will have a much greater appreciation for what is possible or likely when it comes to policy and regulation.

Whole project must be attractive to the client. In that sense it's very important to put yourself in your client's shoes in order to understand their needs and concerns. Profit and savings are important, but also operational constraints, deadlines, etc.

Once solar and wind generation became least-cost, in virtually all geographies, the environmental imperative slipped to second, or perhaps third place, behind economic and energy security considerations. This has been great news for renewables - and the main driver of growth these past five years. Sustainability is still important, especially in the manufacture of components and the design and construction of renewable energy projects, so a commitment to sustainability remains essential in my view.

The hunger for energy can never be quenched in this developing world. In the Northeast region of Brazil, there has been a remarkable increase in wind and photovoltaic energy generation, with considerable potential still to be explored in this area. However, the rate of energy generation growth is outpacing the expansion of transmission infrastructure to regions with energy needs. Efforts are underway to convert excess energy into green hydrogen, and feasibility studies are being conducted on the use of batteries to accommodate excess generation during periods of lower energy demand. Meanwhile, during times of low demand or when transmission limits are exceeded, there are requests to reduce daily renewable energy generation, which in some cases exceeds 5 GW/h.
