I can highly recommend all of the free and paid content that Joanie Simon offers. Additionally, I think that getting behind a camera and just making it work with what you have is key. Its easy to believe you need all the things but in reality a basic camera is a great place to start. Playing with light and trying out different angles and styling techniques is what's up. Nothing has taught me more than studying images I like and engaging in hands on practice.

But I like to look at it instead as the community, one we can unify and come together for support. It is really important that we open up the conversations, lay numbers on the table and lead this industry as a front. Gatekeeping practices like licensing has only hurt the industry and sharing our wisdom with one another will strengthen us as a whole. Additionally, I see a lot of folx get into this industry snapping images without asking, shooting video without introducing themselves. Those connections can be key to engaging with the industry or just using it. Relationships help us a grow, taking is just taking.

The best way to get started is start sharing the products you love. Practice multiple formats and find something that feels good for you and engaging for you audience. Release a few things into the wild and see how they do. It won't be long til folx start interacting and when they reach out with questions and comments, screen shot those. Then put together an email directly to the potential partner and let them know - not only do you love their product but you're already getting folx talking - extend the invitation to take it even further and collaborate on a shoot.
